6/17/20

6-foot-3, 230 pounds with a durable frame and balanced strength throughout. Holbert had an impressive day and showed some of the best raw tools of any prospect we saw. At the plate, he registered a max exit velocity of 103 mph during BP. Which tied for the highest at the event. In the box, he used a tall, slightly open stance before putting an aggressive forward move on the ball. Hands stay relaxed just below rear shoulder before initiating a level swing thru the zone. Possesses above average bat speed and produces loud contact when he connects on the barrel. Defensively, profiles strongly at 1B with his size/power. Moves well for his size with light, clean footwork and balanced actions. Has plenty of arm strength for the position. On the mound, Holbert flashed the best velocity we saw on the day, topping at 88 mph. Works with clean direction towards his catcher with a simple, repeatable delivery. Clean, compact arm stroke into a high ¾ release. Stays tall throughout with plenty of leverage at release. Ball comes in from a steep angle when getting to the bottom of the zone. Slight cross action at landing. Breaking ball shows tight shape when he stays on top of the ball thru release. Intriguing 2-way prospect with some of the best upside we’ve seen in the class.
