2/15/20: After transferring from Skagit Valley CC, OR, Mechals put together an outstanding junior season (11-1, 2.16 ERA, 91.2 IP, 100 SO) for the Lopes. He got the ball on opening day in 2020 and did not disappoint. Mechals hurled five innings of three-hit, one-run baseball with eight strikeouts, earning the win against Oklahoma State. His pitchability with a three-pitch mix is what sets him apart from most others. Last June Mechals was selected in the 40th round by the Marlins, but chose to return for his senior season. With another strong year on the bump, expect Mechals to be selected in the top 10 rounds this June.
