7/01/20

After getting eyes on Wear earlier this summer, he was back to show what he could do in the ProCase setting. The speed, defensive ability and arm strength all hit the same marks he established in June. Continuing to show that he has set a new standard for his physical tools. BP was consistent again this time out and established a new high in exit velocity at 92 mph. Again, the offensive adjustments make him look more comfortable and dynamic in the box. Stayed thru the ball after contact with a balanced finish. Strong lower half allows him to keep posture in his legs while being aggressive with his upper half. During game action, he found barrel in all of his ABs and produced hard contact throughout. Showed a disciplined approach and stayed in the strike zone. Also went back and forth between catching duties and did a solid job handling various arms throughout the day.

5-foot-8, 160 pounds with lean strength in his frame. Wear has really developed his physicality and overall athleticism over the past year. Offensively he’s made nice strides with a more athletic and relaxed load in the box. What used to be more of a toe-tap and pause action has become a low, balanced leg lift into a forward move. The changes allow him to create more separation against his lands at landing. Leading to higher exit velocity and the ability to control his barrel more consistently. Presently has doubles-type power and works the gaps with line-drive contact throughout BP. Defensively the catch and throw actions are still advanced. The arm strength has seen an uptick to 80 mph and the ball comes out of hand with true, consistent ball flight. His short levers and compact frame allow him to get out of crouch quickly and into a clean exchange. Quiet receiver with a soft glove hand behind the plate. Also clocked a 7.03 on a grass track, showing the overall athleticism he has as a prospect.

6/25/19

Sets up with feet outside of shoulder width, square alignment to the pitcher. Barrel rests just above back shoulder with flat angle before hands load. Takes short, quick step forward while head and upper body remain quiet. Showed a line-drive approach in BP with some lift to his pull-side. High, 2-handed finish thru contact. Stays tall as he rotates against firm front leg. Presents a low, compact target behind the dish. Hips work below the ball while he maintains upright posture. Quickly gets out of stance into throwing motion. Athleticism translates well to C position. Aligns front side with target as he exchanges ball down center of chest. High ¾ release point. Put the ball around the bag on all throws down to 2b.
