The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder didn't have his best stuff in a relief performance against Texas Tech over the weekend. Weiss entered the game in a high-leverage situation and immediately skipped a couple of balls in front of the plate, and his general fastball command wasn't great at 92-93 mph with the offering. Weiss had been up to 94-95 mph with the offering at times earlier this spring. Weiss attacked hitters with an 84-86 mph slider, but the offering was not a swing-and-miss pitching look. It lacked the punch you expect from a potential wipeout slider from a shutdown reliever. Weiss threw 60-plus pitches and will be used as a Kevin Kopps-type of weapon for the Wolverines this spring. Freshman righty Willie Weiss ran his fastball up to 93 mph on Saturday with a hard, late breaking 81 mph curveball and scattered command. (Seifert)
