3/24/19

5-foot-6, 150-pound, smaller, thin, athletic frame. The shoulders are rounded, has good strength for his size. A two-way player, projects more of the mound long term. A right-handed pitcher, repeats the delivery, simple, balanced approach to home plate, builds momentum. The hands work up with leg raise, clean separation, direction is inline. The arm action is clean and short on the backside, works out of a natural ¾ slot. The fastball touched 73 mph, thrown for a ton of strikes to both sides of the plate. The 4-seamer is thrown to glove side, with 2 seamer having action to arm side. The breaking ball was 57-59 mph, proper spin and depth to it. The change up is a usable pitch, clocked at 70 mph, comes out of the hands looking like a fastball. At the plate, swing is level, keeps hands inside the baseball, looks to go middle to opposite. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 78 mph, took two solid rounds of batting practice, ran a 4.22 down the line. From the outfield threw 75 mph, arm is clean and loose. The feet work steps through and gains ground. Throws are down hill gives the receiver something to handle. Look for him to get many outs off the mound.

Exit Velocity: 78 mph
Arm Velocity: 75 mph

3/24/18

5-foot-6, 156 pounds, smaller, wiry strong athlete, looks to be able to put mass on over time.  A two-way player, A right-handed pitcher and outfielder, shows to be athletic on both sides of the field. Off the mound, the delivery is faster paced, arm action is longer on the backside, clean path, works out of a high ¾ slot. Looks to get down the mound and attacks the catcher. The top pitch was his 2-seamer, had good action and run to it, clocked at 70-73 mph, with more in there as he builds strength and arm speed. The breaking ball was thrown for strikes, more top to bottom break, 12/6, located down in the zone, clocked at 60-62 mph. The changeup had arm side run to it, clocked at 67 mph. The fastball comes out of his hand well, look for the velocity to jump. At the plate, the stance is even, wider than shoulder width, with the hands loaded up. For timing uses a simple, controlled straight stride, weight stays balanced throughout. The swing is completely level across the chest, with an approach from field to field, sprayed one line drive after another during batting practice rounds. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 76 mph.  Defensively, the arm was clocked at 77 mph, baseball comes out, has a downhill flight to the throws. The footwork is clean, steps through and gains ground. Good looking athlete, someone to follow, look for the game to rise with more experience.

40-Yard Dash: 4.18
Exit Velocity: 76 MPH
Arm Velocity: 77 MPH

5-foot-6, 156 pounds, well-proportioned, athletic build with sloped shoulders. Still room to add strength and may not be done growing. A right-handed pitcher, Baptista is not an overly physical pitcher. However, he is deceptive out of a high ¾ slot, hiding the ball well throughout his delivery. The arm action is short and his hands start high and drop to the waist out of the windup. The stride is average in length but he could learn to leverage his legs more. Baptista can at times speed up his mechanics and lose his release point, which tends to happen when he falls off the backside out of the windup. Posted times to the plate out of the stretch between 1.29-1.35. The fastball comes in at 74-75 mph, generating some ride in on the hands of righties. Baptista’s best pitch is his curveball which he throws between 60-64 mph. The pitch has a 12/6 shape with sharp break, and Baptista shows feel and comfort throwing it in and out of the zone. He also works in a changeup at 70-73 mph. The pitch comes in a little firm with some movement. As Baptista develops some command and consistency, it should be a serviceable pitch. Baptista’s swing-and-miss curveball makes him someone to monitor. With velocity gains and increased command in his coming high school seasons will bolster his prospect profile.
