5-foot-6, 149 pounds, average athletic proportions, room to fill out and add strength to the upper and lower halves. Worked out as a right-handed pitcher. The hands start at the belt in the delivery. Generates above average extension on pitches given his height, with a long stride. Repeated his landing spot with strong finish into an athletic position. Throws from a high ¾ slot. Showed ability to stay online often but can continue to tighten this up as he develops. Easy, clean arm circle, picking up speed as he transitions into the stride. The fastball reached 74 MPH, located down in the zone to both sides, with good sink to the arm side. The breaking ball was clocked at 64 MPH, spin is tight with depth to it. The changeup was an above average offering, clocked at 69 MPh, has good arm speed, repeats it with ease. Overall, Bernal showcased a three pitch mix with clean mechanics. With further physical development driving his ability to improve the offerings themselves, he’s a Rhode Island arm to monitor over the next two years.
