Game Performance

Notes

7/15/22

2022 MLB Draft League: Tennessee signee; Big physical athlete with impressive raw tools, including a high-end power-speed pairing. There's some swing-and-miss in Backus' game, but he also employs an up-the-middle approach and a line-drive bat path that, with a few adjustments, could yield significant game power

2/28/22

JUCO Gems: Hitters, Vol. 1: Physically strong five-tool athlete who loves to play. Grinder with tools and ability. Very good approach at the plate with balance and ability to identify pitches. Barrels it up consistently and makes loud contact. Ball flies off his bat and he hits many out of sight. Plus-plus raw power with those strong wrists and hands. Surprising athleticism when you look at his strong 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame. Has the instincts and arm capable of playing all three outfield positions but profiles better on the corners. Turned it up a notch against top competition. Has the tools, bat and defensive ability to be an everyday corner outfielder at the ML level. Under the radar now, but Backus could be an absolute steal for some Major League club.

11/10/21

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound outfielder is a big, physical athlete with loud tools. Despite his size, Backus is capable of running a 6.5-second 60 and showcases his strength at the plate in the form of 108-plus mph exit velocities from the right side.
