Athletic, undersized lefty with high pitchability. A x-body landing creates some angle and deception from a three-quarter release. Mixed a late-tailing 85-87 mph fastball, mid-70s changeup and 75-77 mph slider throughout a two-inning look.
Put together a strong summer campaign (0.75 ERA/1.00 WHIP/.189 BAA), working in the 86-89 mph range with his fastball and rounding out his three-pitch mix with a 76-77 mph changeup with some bottom and an above-average low-80s slider with good shape and tunnel off the fastball. The max effort southpaw struck out 29 in 24 innings while walking just seven. Heflin profiles as a potential senior sign in the second half of Day Two.
Heflin is one of the top left-handers in Tennessee's 2016 class. His fastball sits in the mid-80's and occasionally touches the high-80's. He shows good pitchability with a three-pitch mix that includes a low to mid-70's curveball and mid-70's changeup to effectively keep hitters guessing. Heflin is committed to Tennessee.
