Compact athletic frame standing 5-foot-7. Heid had a big night on Monday. Getting the start at third base, he stayed there for a short period of time, before coming on in relief in the fifth inning. Heid threw TEN innings of shutout baseball. Heid scattered six hits over his relief appearance, struck out seven, and only walked one which came with two outs in his tenth inning of work (the fourteenth inning of the game). He threw 101 pitches in the game, throwing 70% of his pitches for strikes. Heid works from a low three-quarter arm slot, low effort delivery, and repeats well. The fastball velo was 75-78 mph, had sink to the fastball, and it stayed down in the zone. The combination of sink and location missed a lot of barrels and Heid got early weak contact on it. The breaking ball has 11/5 shape and short action with more of a short slurve feel to it. The breaking ball sat at 66-68 mph. Heid is not going to overpower you on the mound, but he is going to challenge you from start to finish. I saw his first three innings of work, but stat line alone was worth noting and wanted to give some recognition for Heid's performance.
