Preseason All-State I
Smith is 6-4 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides in place, loads back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing with some strength at contact and extension through the ball, exit velocity was 88. Infield position velocity was 82. Ran a 4.56 home to first. On the mound, he throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, very short free arm action that is quick and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish and recoil. Fastball was 80-82, touching 83, with some late sink. Curveball had good armspeed and was 72-74 with hard 1/7 break. Slider was 73-75 with good armspeed and 2/8 break.
