6.13.15: DeGroat threw a 17 strikeout shutout in his semifinal outing against Rustburg, allowing just two hits, neither of which left the infield. He also walked four in the game as he took a couple of batters to find the zone. He has a slight drop and drive delivery and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot and has a long, fluid arm action that is lightning fast and generates explosive velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a landing where his front foot is slightly open but his hips are still closed. His fastball sat 90-93 in the first inning, touching 94, before settling in at 88-92, which he held the entire game. His fastball was up early in the game, and was flat at the top of the zone. When he got it down, it had some sinking action and good downward plane. DeGroat used his changeup sparingly, but it ran 74-77 with fade. It took him three innings to find his breaking ball, but once he did find it, he struck out 12 batters in his last four innings of work. The pitch has sharp 11/5 action and he throws it with great armspeed, running 67-73.
