5.20.17 - Whelan has made a nice jump this spring while pitching for Fort Defiance. The lanky righty pitcehs 80-82 while getting as hig as 84 on the mound. His 6-foot-5 frame allows the ball to speed up on hitters getting to them quickly. More in this tank and would not be surprised to see another nice jump after this summer.
5.24.16: Whelan stands a lanky 6-5. He has a long, stiff arm action with a wrap, normal speed and normal effort. Shoulders closed and downhill, closed landing with fall off finish. Fastball had run to it, sitting 72-74. Gradual 11/5 curveball running 61-66.
