Game One starting pitcher Justin Showalter battled the 'Noles for five innings in his 2022 season debut, allowing six hits and three earned runs. The 6-foot-2 slender-bodied right-hander worked quick and featured a low-90s sinker that topped out at 94, to go along with an occasional 83-84 mph slider and firm 85-86 mph change of pace. With the development of a reliable secondary pitch, he should receive later round consideration in this July's draft. He profiles as a reliever in professional baseball.
Showalter has a tall, lanky frame, drop and drive delivery, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. Long, quick arm action, normal effort. Shoulders on line and uphill, square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had late run, sitting 82-85. Showed a cutter with some late bite that was 80-82. Slider had late 10/4 action, 76-78.
