Horton

Horton has spent most of the winter transforming his swing at the plate, and it has paid off as he has made a noticeable change, freeing up the hands and creating more looseness in the swing. That translated into a lot more line drive and pop coming off the bat and Horton showing a new found power potential coming in. As he continues to add the reps he should continue to get better. Combine that with his already high tools of arm strength (93mph) and speed make for an intriguing prospect.

6.27.17:  Horton is 6-0 with a lankier projectable frame that he can add to, hits from the right side from a crouched, athletic stance. Short leg kick stride and smooth load back, good rhythm to swing, explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Short to ball with quick hands, works uphill to pull side with extension through ball, stays more level when using the rest of the field. Compact line drive swing when gap to gap, exit velocity was 80. In the outfield, he has quick feet and clean footwork, gets behind the ball, above average hands, clean exchange. Very real speed tool, ran a 3.83 home to first on a drag bunt. On the mound, throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, quick loose arm, ball has carry and some accuracy, outfield velocity was 91. Fastball sat 85-88 with plane and a bit of run to it. Curveball was 69-72 with some armspeed and sharp, hard 11/5 break.

Quick twitch and get out of the box hard. Athletic, versatile to play the outfield positions. Strong arm and throws have carry.

9.29.16 - South Carolina commit. Quick athletic outfielder. Has quick hands at the plate with a shorter swing path and fast bat speed. Uses field well spreading the ball around the field with line drive ability. Quick and confident first step with shorter arm action and good carry on throws from the outfield. Ran a 6.76 60-yard dash.

Horton's older brother, Derek, is at Liberty University. Horton is a very athletic middle infielder who is already a good defender with range and a strong arm. He has a good line-drive swing and projects to be able to hit for a high average with gap-to-gap power.
