Solid athletic 5-foot-10 frame. Whitaker came on in relief of Kevin Cole, the Lafayette starter, and threw a strong four innings in relief. Struck out five, scattered three hits, and allowed one earned run during his outing. The fastball was 75-77 mph throughout his outing and spun a 11/5 breaking ball at 62-63 mph. He was efficient around the zone, landing around 68% of his pitches for strikes. As good as his outing was on the mound, he had an even bigger day at the plate. Whitaker had a one out double on a hanging breaking ball in the fifth inning and his courtesy runner would later score to put Lafayette up 1-0. A few miscues put Jamestown up 2-1 in the top of the sixth, but once again Whitaker would deliver at the plate. In the bottom half he had a loud two out double to deep left field that would score the go ahead run and give Lafayette the 3-2 victory, as Whitaker came back out and retired the side in the top of the seventh.

Preseason All-State III

Whitaker is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open wide athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a wrap. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, uphill swing path with some strength at contact, exit velocity was 86. In the infield, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 73. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands square with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 71-75, touching 77, with a bit of late sink to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 58-63 with sharp 11/5 break. Change-up had good armspeed and was 66-70 with some sink. Slider was 70-71 with good armspeed and some late 10/4 break.
