Small rocker step delivery with high balance point and lean back at the top of balance. Drives off of the back side, lands on line to the plate, and falls towards the first base side at finish. Short clean arm action and throws from a three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat at 80-82 mph early and dropped to 78-80 later. Showed above average command of the fastball, especially to the glove side. Breaking ball had a slider look to it with 11/5 shape and a tight late break at 70-72 mph. Portes was effective and challenged hitters with the fastball, used the edges, but was not afraid to pitch to contact.
9.16.17: Portes has a lanky frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Short, loose arm action with normal effort. Shoulders uphill and on line, swings into an open landing with a fall off finish. Fastball was 74-75 with some run to it.
