2/15/20: After starting most of his freshman season, Jacob closed for the Bulldogs as a sophomore. Now he’s back in the starting rotation this spring, receiving the start in their second game against Oregon State. He battled the Beavers for four innings, allowed three runs on five hits, walked four and struck out six. He mixed 85-87 mph sinking fastball with a 70-71 mph breaking ball and 76 mph changeup. He delivered all pitches from a sidearm slot and a long helicopter-like arm circle. To keep hitters off balance he varied the timing of his delivery, sometimes quick-pitching to the plate. His fastball played up with its life and a crossfire angle to the plate. Early in the game he was able to expand gloveside with his breaking pitch. As a junior this season his stuff is not likely to garner much pro interest this June, but with high level performance throughout his career (14-8, 2.58 ERA, 181.2 IP, 128 H, 61 BB, 182 SO), Jacob will likely have plenty of value as a senior sign for the 2021 draft.
