4/18/18 - 6’1/200, Senior- Worked quick and repeated his delivery. Clean arm action with full path. Throws from a high three-quarters slot, lands slightly closed. Good hip turn, long stride and works down the hill for good extension, sticking his landing foot before falling to the third base side. In the first inning, he had pinpoint command of a 92-93 mph fastball and spotted his 81-83 mph slider to the backfoot and the backdoor. Attacked, nibbled or pitched backwards at will. Big league look. As the game progressed, he struggled, at times, to command the fastball. Ranged from 89-93. His slider became less crisp and ranged from 79-83. Also mixed in an 83-84 mph changeup. Held runners well and showed an above average pickoff move to first base. Overall, he kept the ball down and battled without his best stuff, save the first inning. He earned the win throwing 107 pitches in six innings while striking out 10 with seven groundouts.
3/14/18 - 6’1”/195, Senior. Was effectively wild in the zone in this outing that spanned six innings and 111-pitches (75 strikes). Worked 92-94 over the first few innings, touching 95 mph multiple times, before finishing mostly 90-92 over the last couple of innings. Delivers out of a high slot landing slightly closed. Works quickly and repeats his delivery with ease, subtly varying a pause at the balance point for deception. He struggled, at times, to command the fastball to his arm side, but was in the zone for the most part with control of the fastball over command. His slider garnered multiple swings and misses at 78-82 mph against both right-handed and left-handed hitters. Varied the shape and speed of the pitch, and showed confidence in throwing it in any count. Buried the pitch late, when ahead, and it featured late, sharp break to the back leg of right-handers when at its best. Slows his arm on the changeup (80 mph), but threw it for strikes with some fading action. There is effort out front with a head snap, but Heimlich remains linear getting extension, and sticks his landing before falling to the first base side. Without his best stuff, Heimlich was able to rely on his slider to get out of multiple jams throughout the outing.
