8/10/14 Stearns worked three very effective innings sitting 77-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot. The sophomore also commanded a 70 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed to keep batters off balance. Stearns yielded two hits and no runs during his time on the hill. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitter went 2-for-5 at the plate from a square stance with a short swing path. Stearns barreled the baseball frequently in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. He displayed an accurate 72 mph arm across the diamond defensively with the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles.
