Alabama Fall Watchlist: Vol. VII

Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

ALABAMA - With the summer circuit in the rearview mirror and the fall season beginning to take shape, our staff continues to take a closer look at prospects across the state who warrant continued attention over the coming months. Throughout the fall, this series will highlight players from multiple graduating classes who have stood out through our evaluations and remain intriguing follows as development continues.

The Fall Watchlist is not intended to serve as a rankings update, but rather an opportunity to spotlight players who have caught our attention through their performance, tools, projection, or continued development. Some have already established themselves as known names within their respective classes, while others continue to trend upward and could see their stock rise with another strong fall.

PREVIOUS EDITIONS:

Below, we take a look at another group of prospects from Alabama's 2027-2030 classes who remain firmly on our radar heading into the fall.

Uncommitted Seniors 🔍

With the fall season underway, the 2027 class remains a priority on the recruiting trail. With the Senior Future Games recently concluding, this section will also provide an opportunity to highlight additional uncommitted seniors throughout the class who warrant attention from college programs. While Senior Future Games participants will certainly be featured throughout the series, the goal is to continue expanding the follow list and bringing attention to more uncommitted prospects across the state.

RHP/SS Hayden Black, St. Clair County (AL), 2027
Black has developed into a legitimate two-way prospect in the 2027 class with tools that have made a significant jump over the past few years. The athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-hander has worked 85-87 mph and reached 87.9 with arm-side run, but the slider has been the separator on the mound. The pitch works 75-77 mph with late, sharp break and has spun up to 2839 RPM, giving him a true swing-and-miss offering. Black is more than capable as a position player, too, running a 6.78 60 while producing a 99.0 mph EV from a simple, level right-handed swing.

OF Owen Dye, Benjamin Russell (AL), 2027
Dye has continued to add strength to an already athletic profile and brings an intriguing collection of tools to the uncommitted senior class. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound outfielder stays balanced throughout the right-handed swing and has shown present impact, reaching a 99.0 mph EV. He pairs that strength with above-average speed, turning in a 6.71 60-yard dash. The added physicality has only helped the offensive profile while Dye still moves well for the build.

OF Quinton Robinson, Pike Road (AL), 2027
Robinson brings a compact, athletic look to the outfield with a right-handed bat geared toward consistent contact. At 5-foot-8, 180 pounds, he has some twitch in the swing with quick hands and a short, connected path that allows him to work the entire field. He’s a 6.83 runner and has shown a knack for finding the barrel without needing much length in the operation. The contact-oriented approach and athleticism have been steady traits in our looks.

C Tristan Ray, Russellville (AL), 2027
Ray made a strong impression during the spring and showed the type of athleticism and offensive impact that stands out at the catching position. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound backstop works from a well-connected right-handed swing with a clean, level path and noticeable strength through contact, traits that showed up consistently during the high school season. He’s an athletic mover for the position with a 6.86 60, while defensively showing 1.96-2.12 pop times and a 76 mph arm behind the plate.

2028's To Follow 📈

Alabama's 2028 class has entered an important stage in the recruiting process, and there remains plenty of talent to follow throughout the state. With the Future Games recently concluding, this section will also provide an opportunity to highlight additional prospects throughout the class who warrant attention heading into the fall. While Future Games participants will certainly be featured throughout the series, the goal is to continue expanding the follow list and bringing attention to players across the state.

INF Grayson Arnette, Rehobeth (AL), 2028
Arnette has shown a polished offensive game in our looks with a right-handed bat that continues to play against quality competition. The 2028 catcher/infielder stays short and compact through the zone with loose hands and a controlled leg kick, consistently showing good timing and barrel accuracy. He uses the entire field well and has a mature approach for his age, rarely giving away at-bats. The athleticism gives him some versatility defensively, while the feel to hit remains the strongest part of the profile.

RHP John William Nix, Gulf Shores (AL), 2028
Nix has shown a starter look from the right side with a projectable 6-foot-3 frame and silky, athletic movements throughout the delivery. He worked 83-86 mph with the fastball in our spring look, showing command while mixing a 72-74 mph curveball and 74-75 mph splitter. Nix showed the ability to navigate a quality lineup, punching out six while allowing just two hits across four innings against a quality opponent. The ease of the operation stands out, with clear projection remaining as he continues to mature.

OF/RHP Rhett English, Glenwood (AL), 2028
English has an impressive collection of tools with legitimate two-way ability in the 2028 class. The 5-foot-10, 179-pound athlete has strong, twitchy actions from the right side with present bat speed and has reached a 94.3 mph EV. He’s a 6.59 runner with a 90 mph arm from the outfield, giving him plenty of range and arm strength defensively. English also gets on the mound and has worked into the mid-80s, with the athleticism showing up in virtually every part of his game.

C Knox Tyson, Hoover (AL), 2028
Tyson has steadily pushed his way up the 2028 rankings with a left-handed bat that continues to trend in the right direction. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound catcher has present strength with more room to fill out, showing good flow and weight transfer in the swing with a clean path through the zone. There’s strength in the barrel at contact and the offensive game has taken noticeable steps forward over the past few months. Tyson has positioned himself as a name to watch closely heading into the spring.

Underclass Names to Know 🌟

The younger classes across Alabama continue to take shape, with plenty of talent already beginning to emerge from the 2029 and 2030 groups. Evaluations at this stage lean heavily on present tools, athleticism, baseball ability, and long-term projection as these players continue to develop physically. This section will highlight some of the younger prospects who have already caught our staff's attention and are worth knowing early.

INF Axl Hall, Fairhope (AL), 2029
Hall showed he belonged against older competition early in the spring, earning varsity time as a freshman at the 7A level. The athletic 5-foot-7 infielder has quickness throughout his game with impressive bat speed for his age and a knack for staying on pitches to the middle and opposite field. He’s primarily handled second base but has the actions and athleticism to move around the infield as he develops. The run tool also stands out, giving Hall another way to impact the game while the frame continues to mature.

1B Hampton Love, Tallassee (AL), 2029
Love made a strong impression against a loaded group of 2029 talent at the Southeast Super Sophomore Games, with the left-handed bat standing out throughout the event. The physical 6-foot, 196-pound first baseman has real strength in the barrel but keeps the operation simple and compact, allowing him to consistently drive the baseball with authority from gap to gap. He reached a 97.2 mph EV during BP and carried the same impact into game action. Love has the offensive traits to develop into a legitimate middle-of-the-order presence as he continues to mature.

OF Carson Crum, Saint James (AL), 2030
Crum continues to show some of the better athletic tools in Alabama’s 2030 class. The 6-foot, 171-pound outfielder already moves at a high level for his age, turning in a 6.87 60-yard dash. There’s offensive ability to go with the athleticism, as Crum stays short and direct from the right side with a connected, linear path and quickness in the barrel. He’s reached a 93.7 mph EV and has shown the ability to drive the baseball with authority to the pull side.

SS Matthew Downs, Bibb County (AL), 2030
Downs has continued to emerge as a name to know in Alabama’s 2030 class with a physical presence that stands out early. The young infielder already carries present strength in the frame and plays with a high motor, bringing consistent energy to both sides of the ball. Offensively, he competes in the box and has shown the ability to put together quality at-bats with consistent hard contact. The physicality and athleticism are advanced for the age, and Downs has continued to produce each time we’ve seen him.
