The 2019 season was a good one for the state of Alabama, as it produced some impressive talent from top to bottom. This class featured some MLB Draft selections and players that opted to go to school and had productive freshman seasons before they were cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we want to go back and take a look at OF Jordan Beck (Hazel Green HS). Beck was a leader of the 2018 Hazel Green Trojans that went on to win the 6A State Championship. The right-handed hitting outfielder boasted some impressive numbers in his junior and senior seasons and went on to become an every day hitter for the Tennessee Volunteers in 2020.

 

2018 (Junior Season):

As mentioned previously, Beck lead Hazel Green to the 2018 6A State Championship. He was a middle of the order hitter for the Trojans and posted some impressive numbers. Beck hit .362 with 5 2B’s, 2 3B’s, 4 HR’s, and 32 RBI’s which earned him a spot on the 6A All-State team as a DH.

2019 (Senior Season):

Beck posted even more impressive numbers in 2019, hitting an even .500 on the year with 73 hits in 146 at bats. Beck had 16 2B’s, 3 3B’s and 13 HR’s. He also drove in 52 runs and was walked 19 times on the year. This performance even garnered him some MLB Draft talk, as he was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 14th round, but opted to go the college route as he signed with the University of Tennessee.

2020 (Freshman Season at Tennessee):

Beck busted right onto the scene in Knoxville, TN as he was a mainstay in the Volunteer lineup for most of the year, even hitting in the 3-hole on opening day vs. Western Illinois. Beck really made himself known at the Round Rock Classic versus then #1 Texas Tech when he blasted a no-doubt 2 run HR to left field in the 2nd inning. Beck continued to swing the bat well for Tennessee and finished with a batting average of .275 with 5 2B's, 1 HR, and 9 RBI's in a shortened season of of 17 games.
