A Look at Some of the Top 2020's Playing in This Weekend's AHSSA Playoffs

David Sharp
State Director - Alabama

In the past few days, we have looked at some 2018's that may have their name called in June's MLB Draft and some of the top 2019's that figure to play an integral part in their high school team's playoff series this weekend. Today let's look at just some of the sophomores (2020's) that are making an impact for their high school team this season and will be playing this weekend.

Logan Austin RHP / Russell County, AL / 2020

6-foot-2 185 lbs, Auburn Commit, loose arm action that allows the ball to really “jump” out of his hand, upper 80’s fastball that is really projectible and can really command both sides of the plate, another in a long line of plus arms for Coach Tony Rasmus, a standout two way guy as well, Russell County takes their #1 6A ranking and top 10 national ranking (33-3) into the 1st round vs. Daphne.

Luke Daniel RHP / wilson, AL / 2020

Auburn Commit, 6-foot-3 220 lbs, fastball sits 91-92 and has bumped 93 a few times this year, great command of his fastball along with his curveball and changeup, can effectively “pitch backwards” which makes him even tougher to hit with plus velocity, described as “a tremendous competitor, high character kid that works extremely hard” by his high school coach.

Carter Frederick RHP / Chelsea , AL / 2020

Auburn Commit, 6-foot-3 215 lbs, a physical presence with the stuff to match. His fastball will sit mid 80’s and will occasionally bump the upper 80’s. A competitor on the mound that continues to refine his secondary pitches, has been a force this season. He and his teammates are at Stanhope Elmore this weekend in the 1st round in 6A.

Jake Killingsworth C / Headland, AL / 2020

Currently uncommitted. 5-foot-10 195 lbs, a rare find as an elite catcher, defined as a “catch and throw” guy that can really swing the bat as well showing an advanced approach at the plate with power to all fields, Headland heads to Jackson in the first round of the 5A playoffs this weekend.
