OUTLOOK:
The Moody Blue Devils enter the 2020 season with hopes of a return trip to the state playoffs and sights set on a deeper playoff return this year. Coach Eamonn Kelly’s squad welcomes back eight positional starters and six pitchers that logged innings in 2019. ’20 SS Braden Carpenetti shows very solid defensive skills at shortstop and has really strengthened his arm in the past year. Carpenetti shows a solid offensive approach as well and has a knack for drag bunting which plays well into the speed he possesses. Another senior, LHP/OF Aiden Burke is one of the Blue Devils top three arms on the mound and does a nice job commanding three pitches. Burke’s fastball shows big time arm side action and he is also working hard to earn some time in the outfield. ’22 RHP/C Andrew Goodwin returns this year after serving as the team’s #1 starter on the mound a year ago. He has a live arm and the velocity is continuing to improve as he already shows solid command of all of his pitches. He is also very solid behind the plate and will be a vital part of the 2020 Blue Devils. A couple of other ’22 grads that will also be important parts for the Blue Devils in 2020 are twin brothers Zach and Matt Johnson. Zach (C/OF/RHP) has a great frame and is continuing to grow and add strength. The bat speed ais also coming along nicely and he will be counted on to be a contributor this season. Twin brother Matt (RHP/INF) will be counted on to produce on the mound out of the bullpen and also has a chance to help in the infield and at the plate as he shows a solid offensive approach with the bat. The Moody Blue Devils are a definite team to keep an eye on in 5A this season.
