OUTLOOK:

The Southside Panthers enter the 2020 season with high expectations after making a run to the state quarterfinals in 2019. Coach Shane Chappell returns five positional starters and five guys that saw significant innings on the mound from a year ago. ‘20 INF/RHP Tyler Roberts is one of those returners after having a fantastic junior season. Roberts garnered 1st team All State honors after hitting .390 and going undefeated on the mound. For the season he was 5-0 with a 2.03 ERA and the Panthers are hoping he can duplicate his success again this year. Another senior that will be counted on in a two way role is INF/RHP Brock Ford. Ford can play any position on the infield and will also be one of the top arms in 2020 after going 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA a year ago. Micah Phillips is a 6’4 senior INF/RHP that also returns to the mound after throwing 56 innings in 2019. He will also play 1B and hit in the middle of the order. ‘21 INF/RHP Jacob Little returns and will be the ace on the mound, plays shortstop and hit in the middle of the order. A year ago, his sweet swing from the left side produced a .365 batting average with 4 HR’s and 34 RBI’s. He was also 7-3 with a 2.87 ERA on the mound. ‘22 OF/LHP Toren Snow also is back in 2020 after starting as a freshman in 2019. He is a definite name to remember for the next few years after hitting .320 with 5 HR’s and 28 RBI’s. ‘21 OF Aulden Battles is an athletic center fielder that gets great jumps on balls off the bat. A year ago he hit .362 with an on base percentage of .480. ‘23 OF Thomas Farley is a very strong and athletic freshman who is a pus runner and shows nice pop at the plate. Farley is ultra competitive and has a phenomenal work ethic. The Panthers will be looking to make a deep run in the state playoffs again this year, bolstered by a deep pitching staff.
