OUTLOOK:

The Tuscaloosa County Wildcats enter the 2020 season welcoming back five positional starters and two pitchers from the 2019 team. Coach Nick Richardson likes the makeup of his club but enters the season looking for some arms to provide some depth on the mound as the Wildcats do battle in an always tough 7A Area 5 with Oak Mountain, Hoover and Thompson. Junior Landen Borden returns as the starter at shortstop and is legit defender and is the leader of the 2020 Wildcats. He will be the spark plug for the offense out of the leadoff spot and has some big time pop off the bat. Simply put, Borden is a player. Senior utility guy Willie Wedgeworth will see time in both the infield and outfield after starting at 3B a year ago. He is a gritty competitor that seems to grind out every at bat. Senior Matthew Estes returns at 2B and will also see time on the mound this year after an excellent offensive season in 2019. He finished in the top three of all major offensive statistical categories. He shows consistency at the plate and is a very solid defender. ’20 RHP/INF Grant Hickman returns as the most experienced pitcher and will also play on the infield. The Shelton State signee has continued to progress on the mound and will play a major role for the 2020 squad. Senior INF/OF Harrison Stout is a very versatile player that can play a lot of different positions on the field. The Bevill State signee brings speed and athleticism to the Wildcats. ’20 OF/RHP Logan Bowers returns to center field for his senior season where he  brings speed and offensive power to the lineup as well as a plus arm from the outfield. Senior OF/RHP Davin Sloan  returns and looks to contribute on the mound as well as in the outfield. Senior LHP Layne Lann will see significant time on the mound this season as he shows the ability to command multiple pitches from the left side. A few juniors also look to make an impact this season for the Wildcats. ’21 1B/RHP Brian Cooley is one of those juniors looking to make an impact as a two-way guy. He could throw some meaningful innings as well as providing a quality bat to the lineup. Junior C/RHP Connor White may see time behind the plate as well as providing a quality arm for the Wildcats. He shows some versatility and a quality bat.  Junior C TJ Glasgow is a quality catcher with solid receiving skills and some arm strength behind the plate.
