OUTLOOK:

The West Point Warriors narrowly missed a state playoff appearance in 2019 but have high hopes entering this season as they bring back a good bit of experience. Coach Drew Bryson will rely on some depth on the mound. They may not have a bunch of “flashy arms” but they do have some pitchers that will compete and pound the zone with different pitches. The team expects to play defense at a high level this year as they return seven positional starters and six guys that logged innings in 2019. At the top of the pitching rotation is ‘21 RHP/1B/3B Aubrey Cleghorn, a 1st team All State selection a year ago as a sophomore. He was 6-2 on the mound, throwing 61 ⅔ innings with 67 K’s and a 1.58 ERA. Offensively Cleghorn hit .324 with ten 2B’s, 4 HR’s and a team leading 25 RBI’s. Will Cochran, a junior RHP/3B, also returns for the Warriors this season after a successful sophomore campaign as well a year ago. He hit .306 with 12 RBI’s and had an on base percentage of .405. Cochran will also be a key contributor on the mound as well as holding down the hot corner. Yet another junior, 2B/RHP Branson Smith, returns to the lineup again this year. In 2019 he hit .324 with eight 2B’s and 20 RBI’s. He also threw twenty innings with a 3.85 ERA and 16 K’s. Senior OF/RHP Levi Farley will be looked to for leadership and will also throw important innings on the mound in 2020. He will also man centerfield for the Warriors and is a plus defender and can cover a ton of ground. ‘22 SS/RHP Eli Folds is a young guy that will also be counted on in a two way role in 2020. The RHP will be counted on to provide quality innings when he is not at SS. he and Smith give the Warriors a solid double play combination in the middle. West Point will play a very difficult schedule in hopes of preparing them for the most important games during the second half of the season. The Warriors enter 2020 with high hopes.
