7A James Clemens (3) vs. 7A Huntsville (2)

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The James Clemens Jets travelled to Huntsville High School on Thursday, March 11 and came away with a tight 3-2 victory. Pitching was definitely the name of the game as each team could only manufacture two hits each. The Jets sent senior RHP Garrett Borst (2021) to the mound and the recent PBR Alabama February “Athlete of the Month” delivered another quality start. He went five innings to get the win and allowed two hits and two runs (one earned). Borst struck out five Panthers and only issued one walk. Junior RHP Cade Prestegard (2022) got the ball for the Panthers and matched Borst pitch for pitch as he also tallied five innings on the mound. Prestegard only allowed one hit while striking out five and walking three batters. He did not allow a run.

The game was scoreless through two innings but that changed with two outs in the bottom of the third inning as Stone Lawless (2023, Tennessee) ripped a double down the left field line, driving in Hudson Storey (2022) and Cooper Williamson (2022), who both reached via walk. That was all of the scoring until the top of the sixth inning when the Jets pushed across three runs. Carson Creehan (2023), Connor Cantrell (2021) and Eli Bolden (2021) all walked and after a couple of strikeouts Walker Hoskins (2021) stepped to the plate with bases juiced and two outs. Hoskins hammered a fastball all of the way to the right centerfield fence which scored all three baserunners and would prove to be all of the scoring on the night. The Jets did hand the ball to RHP Ethan Kohler (2021) for the sixth and seventh innings and the uncommitted senior was downright dominant as he struck out five of the six hitters he faced to get the save.
