MOBILE, AL - The Leopards were rewarded with the No. 1 ranking in Class 4A for the 6th consecutive week after a 4-0 week last week, and they continued to show that they deserve that recognition with a 12-4 victory over Baldwin County on Monday night. The offense erupted with a huge inning in the bottom of the 6th inning after giving up a lead in the prior inning. The offensive firepower of the Leopards, however, was too much for the Tigers in the end.

Both teams added a run in the 1st inning to kick off the game. Baldwin County brought home a runner with a RBI groundout with one out in the top of the 1st from 1B Bryce Epperson (2021) to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. The Leopards quickly fought back in the bottom half, as OF Rashad Robinson (2021, Memphis) brought home C Grant Jay (2022, Dallas Baptist), who tripled in the previous at-bat, on a RBI groundout.

Mobile Christian answered in the 2nd with a shutdown inning on the mound, then took the lead in the bottom half. SS Seth Smith (2023) jump started the offense after a double play with a double to left field. 1B Kelly Lanier (2022) would bring home Smith on a RBI single in the next at-bat, giving the Leopards a 2-1 lead after two innings of play.

In the 4th inning, 2B Zane Stokes (2022) reached to start the frame on a hit-by-pitch. 3B Charlie Keller (2022, Mississippi State) would extend the lead and bring home Stokes on a towering two-run blast to the back side, making the score 4-1 heading to the 5th inning.

Baldwin County, however, showed excellent resiliency battling back in the 6th inning to tie things up on a few hits of their own. Joshua Minshew started the scoring, as he doubled to bring home a runner from the 2nd base. Braxton Scarborough followed up Minshew with a RBI double of his own to cut the lead to 4-3 with a runner still on 3rd and one out. JW Jackson came through with a fly ball that was hit deep enough to center field to score the runner from 3rd base to tie it up at 4-4 in the 6th inning.

Mobile Christian flexed their muscles offensively in the home half of that inning, putting up eight runs to take a commanding lead to the 7th. 3B Charlie Keller (2022, Mississippi State) blasted a no-doubt shot for his second home run of the game to give the Leopards a 6-4 lead, and Mobile Christian would never look back. OF Brody Hinton (2022), 2B Zane Stokes (2022) and SS Sam Smith (2023) all contributed in the inning to bring home runs with hits of their own. The Leopards took a 12-4 lead to the 7th inning, where they would go three up, three down to earn the victory.
