AUBURN, AL - The Auburn Tigers and Opelika Bulldogs met again on Wednesday after the two teams played on Monday, with Auburn winning 10-0. This game, however, was a little bit closer. Opelika jumped out to a two run lead in the 3rd, but the Tigers answered back with seven unanswered runs in the following innings. LHP Jack Tullier (2021) started for the Tigers, while RHP Kydylan Ligon (2022) threw the first two innings for Opelika.
Both teams traded zeros in the first two innings, as both starting pitchers were in command to start the game. Tullier punched out all six of the hitters that he faced in two innings, while Ligon worked around a few walks to keep the game scoreless heading to the 3rd inning.
After the Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 3rd, SS Harrison Long (2022) brought home the first run of the game on a RBI groundout. OF Jackson Harris (2022) would then follow up Long, as he singled with two outs in the inning to bring home the second run of the inning. The Bulldogs led 2-0 heading to the bottom half.
Auburn fought back in the home half of the 3rd, answering back with three runs of their own. After a walk and a single from 1B Ryan Austin (2022, Southern Union CC), C Riley Austin (2022, Southern Union CC) singled through the right side to get Auburn on the board, trailing 2-1. C/DH Peyton Williams (2021) delivered one of the biggest swings of the night for either teams. With the bases loaded and one out, Williams drove a ball over the center fielder’s head and off the base of the wall to bring home two more runs and make the score 3-2, heading to the 4th.
After scoring a run in the 4th, the Tigers added more to their lead in the 5th and 6th innings. Two of those runs came on a wild pitch and a RBI groundout from 3B Patrick McGlon (2022). OF Brady Fuller would add another to the Tiger lead on a RBI single with two outs in the 6th to push the lead to a comfortable 7-2 advantage. The Bulldogs would go 3 up, 3 down in the 7th to give Auburn a 7-2 win and push their record to 9-1 on the young season.
