Alabama Fall Invite Scout Blog: Outfielders

Today, we shift our focus to take a look at each player present at the Alabama Fall Invite by checking in on the primary outfielders that took part in the event. Many of the position players also hopped on the mound and threw an inning during gameplay as their pitching writeup will be included in their positional analysis. Today we look at the 13 outfielders that were at the event. 

 

Outfielders

Parker Billions: OF/LHP, (2023) Buckhorn, AL. 5-foot-7, 140-pound. In the box, the left-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 70 mph. Starts in a balanced stance with a compact load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed is average and has simple swing plane. Found some barrels during his rounds. Base hit approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 70 mph; had a clean exchange and consistent footwork. Showed decent accuracy to the bases. Recorded a time of 7.33 in the 60-yard dash.

TJ Blackmon: OF/LHP, (2021) Carver, AL. 5-foot-10, 175-pound athletic frame. At the plate, the left-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 86 mph. Starts in an athletic stance with a controlled load. Uphill swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 82 mph; had consistent footwork, sure hands and a natural exchange. Showed decent accuracy to the bases. Clocked a 60 time of 7.25 at the event. On the mound, sat with his fastball at 76-78 mph and topped out at 79 mph; had consistent command. His 11/5 curveball (72-73) showed decent command and hard action.

Garrett Day: OF/3B, (2022) Randolph, AL. 6-foot-4, 190-pound solid frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 93 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Starts in an active stance with a compact load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed is efficient and exhibits uphill swing plane. Created some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. In the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 87 mph; showed a clean exchange and smooth footwork. Showed decent accuracy to the base with a high ¾ slot.

Tim Gooden: OF/RHP, (2021) Helena, AL. 6-foot, 160-pound mature frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 90 mph. Started in a balanced stance with a smooth load. Bat speed is efficient and displays uphill swing plane. Had tons of loud contact and found lots of barrels. Line drive approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 84 mph; had a natural exchange and consistent footwork. Decent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a quick arm action. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.69. On the mound, produced a fastball that came in at 82-84 mph with a max of 85 mph; has tailing action and very consistent control. Throws a 11/5 curveball (70-75) that has command low in the zone and swing and miss action. His changeup (74-77) showed arm side command and tailing action.

Luke Harris: OF/3B, (2021) John Carroll Catholic, AL. 5-foot-10, 164-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Harris displayed an exit velocity of 89 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Setup is comprised of athletic stance and a short stride. Flat swing plane. Was able to create some loud contact and found multiple barrels.Line drive approach. In the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 80 mph; shows sure hands and a fluid exchange. Had a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.74.

Marcus Locklear: OF/RHP, (2022) Hoover, AL. 6-foot-1, 160-pound projectable frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 91 mph. Setup is comprised of athletic stance and a controlled stride. Had above average bat speed. Found some barrels during his round. When throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 89 mph. Had a quick arm action and decent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.15. Projectable on the mound, had a very quick arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Shows some effort in his delivery. Showed consistent balance point. Sat with his fastball at 84-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph; has arm side command and tailing action. Has hard action and in the zone control on his 11/5 curveball (65-66).

Harrison Long: OF/SS, (2022) Auburn, AL. 6-foot, 160-pound projectable frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 93 mph. Begins in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then uses a quick stride just before his swing. Bat speed is above average and exhibits uphill swing plane. He Barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Line drive approach. From the outfield, his best throws to the bases were registered at 84 mph; had a clean exchange and smooth footwork. Showed a consistent arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 7.06 in the 60-yard dash.

Griff Minor: OF/LHP, (2021) Helena, AL. 5-foot-9, 185-pound sturdy frame. During batting practice, Minor displayed an exit velocity of 95 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Sets up in an athletic stance and has a big leg kick. Bat speed is electric, exhibits uphill swing plane and high finish. Found lots of barrels with loud contact. Pull side approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 77 mph; has a clean exchange and athletic footwork. Had decent accuracy. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.37.

Tyler Morrison: OF/RHP, (2022) Jasper, AL. 6-foot-3, 170-pound. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 91 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Sets up in a tall stance with a leg kick. Had quick bat speed and uphill swing plane. Found multiple barrels during his round. Pull side approach. In the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 95 mph; has sure hands and a clean exchange. Showed a very quick arm action and decent accuracy to the bag. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.9. On the mound, had a quick arm action. Up-tempo type pitcher who uses high effort. Sat with his fastball at 84-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph; had control around the zone. Showed a 11/5 curveball (74-75) with some action. Showed control around the zone and tailing action on his changeup (76-79).

Evan Pope: OF/RHP, (2022) Auburn, AL. 5-foot-10, 165-pound solid frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 96 mph. Starts in a balanced stance with a controlled load, then uses a quick stride. Has uphill swing plane, quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Pull side approach. In the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 92 mph;had fluid footwork. Showed a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Clocked a 60 time of 7.22 at the event. On the mound, had a quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Showed high effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-84 mph with a max of 85 mph; showed command around the zone and running action. Showed tight action and control low in the zone on his 11/5 curveball (74-76).

Steven Shelton: RHP/OF, (2023) Chelsea, AL. 6-foot-1, 150-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Shelton clocked an exit velocity of 85 mph. Sets up in an active balanced stance and has a controlled stride. Upward swing plane. Created some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Base hit approach. From the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 75 mph; clean exchange. Showed decent accuracy. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.38. On the mound, produced a fastball that came in at 74-75 mph with a max of 76 mph; showed decent control. Had in the zone command and late action on his curveball (65-66).

Christian Sutphin: OF/RHP, (2022) Grissom, AL. 6-foot-1, 210-pound physical frame. At the plate, Sutphin showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 92 mph. Sets up in a balanced stance and has a quick stride. Bat speed is above average and exhibits uphill swing plane. He barreled up lots of balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Throwing from the outfield, he displayed power in his arm with throws up to 89 mph;clean exchange. Showed a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the bag. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.4. On the mound, has a short arm action. Showed high effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-81 mph with a max of 82 mph; had running action and command around the zone. Throws a 11/5 curveball (66-67) that shows control low in the zone and tight action.

Jax Yoxtheimer: OF/RHP, (2023) Central Phenix City, AL. 6-foot-4, 185-pound athletic frame. At the plate, the left-handed hitter's 91 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Starts in a tall stance with a controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Level swing plane. He Barreled up multiple balls during the round. Line drive approach. In the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 81 mph; shows athletic footwork and a fluid exchange. Showed a high ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.15. Projectable on the mound, uses a loose arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Uses some effort in his delivery. Showed athletic balance point. Threw his fastball 78-79 mph and topped out at 80 mph; showed arm side command and sinking action. Has a 11/5 curveball (63-64) that shows sweeping action and around the zone control.
