OUTLOOK:

The Helena High School baseball program has enjoyed a great deal of success in only a short period of time as a school. With state championship runner up finishes in 2015 and 2018 and a state championship in 2017, the Huskies hope to replicate that success in 2019. They will have to replace several key components from last year’s team if they plan on doing so, but there are some talented young players ready to take on a bigger role this year. No doubt, the leader of this year's team is 2019 SS John Stephen Heacock, a Snead State signee that was the team’s everyday SS and leading hitter in 2018. He has a throwback type mentality to the game and is ranked #44 in our 2019 state rankings. Obviously he is not the only weapon the Huskies have as others are waiting in the wings. A couple of other returners from last year’s team are Nick Thompson (2019, OF) and Luke Stamba (2020, OF). Thompson returns after hitting just under .300 in 29 starts a year ago and Stamba was an everyday OF a year ago that shows tremendous athleticism and will see an increased role in 2019. Stamba is also the QB on the Huskies football team. Two 2021 grads to keep an eye on are IF Brody Moss and C Tyler Jon Santos. The left hand hitting Moss started at 2B in 2018 as a freshman and had some big moments in the Huskies drive to Montgomery and Santos, a power hitting C, should assume the role as the Huskies everyday catcher. Santos was able to contribute some in 2018 but will obviously be called on more this season. Although the faces change, look for Coach P.J. Guy’s Helena team to continue their winning ways.
