Alabama High School Team Preview: Springwood Wildcats

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Springwood Wildcats have a relatively young roster in 2021 but those youngsters have played a lot of competitive baseball over the years. Due to playing at that high level, the baseball IQ of the Wildcats is high which usually equates well on the field. There are 4 positional starter that return from 2020 while 5 pitchers that saw time a year ago return as well. Junior SS/RHP Ethan Plank is a 5'11 185 pounder that has been a starter since his freshman season. He will definitely be counted on in a two way role while providing a top of the order bat in the lineup. He will take his customary spot at the top of the pitching rotation as he has been the team's #1 since his freshman season. Sophomore RHP/3B/1B Luke Hudson will also be a vital member of the team in 2021. The 5'9 200 pounder is a young player that shows a solid three pitch mix on the mound and commands everything he throws. He also has some thump in the barrel, showing some power to the pullside gap. He will be heavily relied on to drive in runs in 2021 for the Wildcats. Several other team members will be integral parts of the 2021 squad but look for these two players to to lead the way in 2021.
