OUTLOOK:

The Blue Devils return 5 position players as well as 5 pitchers from the 2018 team that just missed the state playoffs, finishing third in their area. They will be vying for a playoff spot in 2019 competing in Area 10 with Springville, St. Clair County and Center Point. The Blue Devils have a nice mix of returning players and talented newcomers on the roster. 2019 SS/RHP Tyler Miller is a key returnee that is solid in the field and at the plate while showing a mid 80’s fastball and a nice breaking ball on the mound. Braden Carpenetti is a 2020 2B/SS that returns as well. He will hold down the leadoff spot and is always a threat on the bases. His coach, Eamonn Kelly , describes him as a “very solid player with great hands.” Hunter Garcia is another 2019 RHP that will be called on to contribute even more in 2019. He has nice command of three pitches that includes a fastball in the 80’s. A few new guys will be called on this season, one being ‘20 OF Jonathon White. He is a converted IF that shows a strong arm and will be a factor on the mound as well. Reggie Williams is a ‘20 2B/3B in his first year on the varsity and will be called on to play multiple positions. Another 2020 player is Aiden Burke, a LHP/OF that threw some innings in 2018. He has shown some impressive growth since last year and will be counted on to log more innings this season. Freshman Andrew Goodwin (2021, C) should be the starting catcher as his development behind the plate will be an important piece of the puzzle in 2019. The Blue Devils enter the season with high hopes of a playoff spot as they compete in a very tough area.
