OUTLOOK:

The Mustangs look to build on a state playoff appearance in 2018 as many young players got significant experience that should bode well for this year and in the future. The team welcomes back 6 positional starters and 5 pitchers that saw action last year on their area championship team. To repeat that area championship and move forward in the playoffs, Coach Wes Dunsieth will depend on a solid returning nucleus. Leading the way is 2019 C and team captain Nate Hodge (Coastal Alabama CC signee), who has been a 3 year starter for the Mustangs. Hodge shows some pop from the right side and is described as a “wall behind the plate” by his coach. Cody Freeman is a 2019 RHP that creates nice movement on his mid 80’s fastball. 2020 Sully Stephens is a dual player showing a low 80’s fastball on the mound and is a mainstay in the outfield. 2021 grad Chase Eddings is a physical corner infielder that will be counted on to drive in runs for the Mustangs. Cole Freeman is a 2021 RHP that can really spot all three pitches and shows a low 80’s fastball while another 2021, Cody Simmons, will be counted on to play in the outfield and SS/2B with his plus speed and athleticism he brings to the team. Also look for 2021 RHP Jack Floyd to contribute on the mound as well with his low 80’s fastball. Floyd has only recently been converted to a pitcher. The experience the Mustangs gained last year, and some impressive young talent should go a long way in making for a successful season in 2019.
