Monday, March 14th
+ SS Blake Wynn (Dothan, 2023) was thoroughly impressive both at the plate and up the middle defensively in an extended look on Monday night. After starting at second base as a sophomore on last year's loaded & veteran club that reached the Elite 8 in Class 7A, Wynn has assumed the duties of the every-day shortstop and has transformed into one of the primary producers offensively. The uncommitted junior now has a 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame with proportional strength throughout and quality athleticism that allows him to move swiftly in all areas. From the left side, Wynn has some whip to the barrel through the zone and creates easy lag that consistently found hard contact in all at-bats on the night. Using all parts of the field in his approach, the junior shortstop has hitter-ish traits and is sure to be a good follow for a program looking to add a left-handed hitting middle infielder to their junior class. He finished going 4-for-5 with two RBI's, three runs scored and a stolen base.

+ 1B/LHP Sheldon Ott (Houston Academy, 2022) continued to fit the role of a run-producer hitting in the middle-of-the-order in the Raiders lineup. Standing at 6-foot-5, 225-pounds, Ott has obvious physicality that plays well in his offensive profile after showing off plenty of power last summer playing for Excel Baseball and at a couple of events. Last night was no different for the uncommitted senior, as he picked out a hanging breaking ball over the heart of the plate in a two-strike count and drove it well over the head of the center fielder to drive home a pair on a two-RBI triple. The physical left-handed hitting first baseman shows good bat speed working with an uphill path through the zone, and uses his strong frame to hit for power out of the three-hole. He also showed quality zone awareness, working a pair of walks while laying off some off-speed pitches after the triple.

+ RHP/OF Wade Shelley (Houston Academy, 2025) has created plenty of buzz over the past year with some intriguing tools and athleticism as a young two-way prospect. The freshman and current No. 1 prospect in the Alabama class came on in relief to pitch the 7th frame and showed off a really fast arm with an electric fastball for his age. In this outing, Shelley struggled to find the zone (5/16) throughout his inning, but the freshman worked at 87-88 mph and reached back and grabbed a 91 mph on a two-strike offering early on in his inning. We didn't see it in-game as he worked exclusively with the fastball, but Shelley showed a sharp breaking ball at 70 mph & a changeup in warm-up's. He didn't get much help with a pair of errors behind him when the ball was put in play, so he could've been out of the inning before he surrendered a few runs. It's still really impressive arm strength that has a chance to be a real special arm when in the zone.

+ 1B Caiden Combs (Gardendale, 2025) immediately jumps out at 6-foot-4, 255-pounds, but the freshman grad is more than just a physical body. He uses a confident approach at the plate with strong, quick hands and has no problem generating power to all fields. The freshman shows an uphill bat path that creates plenty of carry and backspin off the bat, using a small leg kick as a timing trigger. Aside from his offensive skills, Combs showed quality agility around the bag defensively at first base and is more athletic than one may think. Combs is also a high-profile football recruit as a defensive end.

+ 3B/RHP JB Sain (Homewood, 2024) was the only player from either team that collected multiple hits on Monday. The sophomore has a very lean build with plenty of room for additional size and strength, but shows a balanced approach at the plate with the ability to handle pitches to both sides of the plate. Sain had a double to the pull-side and later handled a pitch over the heart of the plate for a single back up the middle. The sophomore drove in both runs for the Patriots on Monday while also doubling as a quality right-hander on the mound. Although he did not throw Monday, he did show solid arm strength on throws across the diamond.
