LA JUCO: LSU-Eunice Sweeps Saturday DH

PBR Louisiana kicked off its spring baseball coverage on Saturday in Chalmette, LA for a Junior College double-header that featured LSU-Eunice, St, Louis CC (MO), and Nunez CC.  Below is a quick game recap with notes on key players.

Saturday FEBRUARY 9, 2019

Game One

St. Louis CC (MO)   7
LSU-Eunice JC        10   

Game 1 Recap:

Game one of a double-header saw LSU-Eunice score three runs in the bottom of the 9th on a walk-off homer from Fr. OF River Town to claim a 10-7 win over St. Louis CC (MO). Tony Rask (So., C, St. Louis CC) got the scoring going with a solo blast to left field in the top of the 1st. However, LSU-Eunice answered with a solo homer of their own, as left-handed hitting Freshmen infielder Jarrett McDonald hammered one over the right-field wall.

Fr. SS Javier Vaz (LSU-Eunice JC) and So. 3B Nick Bellina (LSU-Eunice JC) each collected three hits in the first game of the double header, while Jarrett McDonald and So. OF Bren Faulk (LSU-Eunice JC) drove in a pair of runs each, to go along with River Town’s three RBI.

St. Louis CC got two hits a piece from Tony Rask, So. 1B McGwire Dean, and So. 2B Nicholas DeBeer, while Dean and Fr. SS Brenden Meissner each drove in a pair of runs on Saturday.

R-So. LHP Tyler Booth (LSU-Eunice JC) gave the Bengals a quality start, tossing six innings, allowing four runs on five hits, while striking out nine in the no-decision.

So. RHP Landon Clifton (LSU-Eunice JC) picked up the win, as the 5-foot-11, 192-pound right-hander came in for the 9th inning, running his fastball up to 89 mph with a sharp breaking ball.

Game Two

Nunez CC                   0

Game 2 Recap:

Game two of the double-header saw LSU-Eunice score seven runs in the top of the 1st inning, as the Bengals would eventually defeat Nunez CC 10-0 in five innings.

Offensively, LSU-Eunice JC was led by Fr. SS Javier Vaz and So. 1B Slate Fuller, who each finished 2-for-3 in the contest with an extra base hit, and multiple RBI.

So. RHP Andrew Sheridan (LSU-Eunice JC) picked up the win with a complete game, five inning performance, allowing no runs on only one hit, while striking out seven and walking none.

So. SS Tyler Roberts (Nunez CC) collected the lone hit for the Pelicans, and also added a stolen base on the day.
