Litsch's Lookback: Week 1

Jesse Litsch
Florida Scouting Director

Litsch’s Lookback is a weekly segment that takes a look back at the standouts from that week around the state of Florida. The entire PBR Florida staff and myself will be out for coverage at High School, JUCO, and NCAA baseball games each week. We will highlight the biggest standouts from the games we saw that week.

This past week we had coverage from all around the state. High school in the Panhandle, South Florida, Tampa, and Orlando, as well as JUCO coverage and Florida vs Miami coverage. Take a look at who stood out to our staff this past week.

Tommy Mace, RHP, University of Florida

Starting opening day against the No. 11 ranked Miami Hurricanes, Mace put together a very solid performance. He went 5 innings, with 3 hits and 1 earned run, while striking out 8. He dominated with his heater which sat 92-96 but showed a good feel for a 5 pitch mix. The slider sits at 81-84 and is an above average swing and miss pitch which works well off his fastball.

2022 Ashton Crowther, LHP, Mitchell

Crowther, a 2022 grad and University of Miami commit, was very impressive in his first start of the year. He had a 4 pitch mix which included a fastball with tons of arm side run and velocity up to 91 mph while sitting consistently 87-89. He also featured a plus breaking ball (77-81) and good feel for his changeup (78-80) which works very deceptively off of the fastball. Final line: 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 K’s.
