Results from Thursday's quarterfinal action

  Several quarterfinal series started a day early due to the threat of rain on Friday. Let's take a look at the action across the state. 

1A: 

(5) Spring Garden swept Heritage Christian Academy by the scores of 4-3 and 11-1. In Game 1, '20 SS Colby Slaton delivered the walk off single in the bottom of the 7th and in Game 2 sophomore Weston Kirk was in control on the mound with a complete game (5 IP) 5 hitter, allowing only 1 earned run. 

(3) Mars Hill Bible continued their dominant ways, winning 12-0, 9-0 over Donoho. In Game 1 seniors  Colton Smith (6 IP) and Collin Huntley (1 IP) combined for the shutout while in Game 2 '22 Josh Bowerman got the complete game shutout. Smith and Huntley homered in Game 2.  

(1) Millry and (4) Brantley split two games as Brantley won Game 1 6-5 as Parker Odom delivered a 2 out 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 7th for the walk off win. Millry bounced back in Game 2 winning 7-3 as four Wildcat pitchers combined to allow only 3 hits. Game 3 will be Friday at 3:00 PM. 

(8) Sweet Water swept (9) Holy Spirit by scores of 12-2, 4-0. In the opener, '20 JT Etheridge threw a complete game (5 IP) allowing 5 hits with 8 K's. Junior Reed Joiner and freshman Michael Cole each had 3 hits. In Game 2 '19 RHP Chance Broussard (6 2/3 IP) and Joiner (1/3 IP) combined on a no hitter

2A: 

Cedar Bluff and (4) Decatur Heritage split two games. Cedar Bluff won Game 1 15-4 behind a complete game effort by junior Lucas Hampton.  Decatur Heritage rebounded to win Game 2 13-7 in 8 innings, scoring 6 runs in the top of the 8th. Game 3 will take place Friday at 2:00 PM.

(7) Westbrook Christian continued it's dominant ways by sweeping Red Bay 11-1 and 14-1. Sophomore Samuel Dutton got the complete game (5 IP) win in Game 1 while his brother, junior Andrew Dutton went 4 innings on the mound and homered in Game 2. Junior Brett Vice worked a scoreless 5th inning to finish things up for the Warriors. 

(1) GW Long swept (10) Leroy 5-4 and 8-2. In Game 1 '19 Christian Collier had a 3B and '19 Matt Snell homered and was the winning pitcher, going 7 innings on the mound allowing 7 hits and striking out 9. In Game 2, Collier tripled again (in addition to a double) and junior Caison Long was the winning pitcher with a complete game effort. Snell added a double as well.  

3A:

(4) Piedmont swept Westminster Christian 6-3, 4-1 getting two complete game outings on the mound. In Game 1 senior Logan Pruitt went the distance allowing 6 hits. Junior Bryce Walter got the complete game win in Game 2 going 7 innings and striking out 7. 

(1) Winfield and (6) Phil Campbell split Thursday with Phil Campbell winning Game 1 6-5 while Winfield bounced back in Game 2 with 7-2 win. Nate Owens (5 2/3 IP) and Austen Baker (1 2/3 IP) combined for the win in Game 1 while Ridge Raper homered for the Bobcats. Winfield pitcher Jackson Elkins went the distance in Game 2 allowing only 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Game 3 is Friday at 4:30 PM.

4A: 

(7) Mobile Christian and (5) Trinity Presbyterian split the first two games. Mobile Christian won Game 1 5-3 as senior Ethan Hearn homered for the Leopards and senior Hunter Redding went the distance on the mound (7 IP) allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs. Trinity Presbyterian won Game 2 3-2 in nine innings when senior Trace Bright drove in the go ahead run in the top of the ninth. Camden Lovrich homered for the Wildcats and went 8 innings on the mound allowing 2 runs. Senior Tyler Britton pitched the ninth for the save. Game 3 will be Friday at 2:00 PM

5A:

Madison Academy swept Boaz 11-2, 6-2. In Game 1, junior Cam Busby went 7 innings on the mound striking out 6 and allowing 1 earned run. In Game 2, sophomore Avery Seaton had 3 hits, freshman Alex Wade added a triple and senior Trey Dollar went the distance on the mound, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 5. 

6A:

(9) Cullman and (6) Hazel Green split the first two game with Cullman winning Game 1 11-9 after being down 6-0 after 1 inning. Brennen Norton worked the last 3 innings for the Bearcats allowing 2 hits an no runs. Hazel Green won the nightcap 8-3 as senior Jordan Beck doubled and tripled and came on in relief to work 2 2/3 innings on the mound, allowing 2 hits and no runs with 6 strikeouts. Junior PJ Mahoney had two doubles.  Game 3 will be Friday at 5:00 PM. 

Benjamin Russell and (1) Hillcrest split two games. Hillcrest won Game 1 11-0 while Benjamin Russell responded and won Game 2 3-2 in nine innings. In Game 1, '19 Garrett McMillan threw a complete game (5 IP) shutout allowing only 2 hits and striking out 9. Senior Walton Bailey had 3 hits, including 2 doubles. Benjamin Russell won Game 2 in nine innings when junior Joe Young singled on a 1-2 count to walk it off for the Wildcats. Juniors Cade Brooks (6 IP) and Brett Pitts (3 IP) combined to limit Hillcrest to 2 runs over nine innings. Game 3 is Friday at 5:00 PM. 

Chelsea and (2) Russell County split two games Thursday and will play Game 3 Friday at 5:00 PM. Russell County won Game 1 8-7 by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth. Junior Logan Austin went 7 innings and junior Zack Henderson pitched the eighth for the Warriors. Chelsea responded and won Game 2 12-6. Senior Jacob Tinnell worked the last two innings in relief of sophomore starter Brock Hill (5 IP). Sophomore Adam Reaves was 3-3 including a triple and junior Carter Frederick homered. 

7A:

(8) Hewitt Trussville swept Florence by scores of 4-1 and 1-0. In Game 1 junior Michael Fowler went all 7 innings, allowing 7 hits, striking out 7 and not giving up an earned run. In the nightcap, senior Julian Sauger came through in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 10th in a scoreless game as he belted a 3-2 pitch with 2 outs over the CF fence to give the Huskies the walk off 1-0 victory.
