Team Alabama Junior Future Games: Workout Day, Quick Hits

PBR Alabama Staff

From July 25th to July 30th, the Prep Baseball Report staff will run the PBR Junior Future Games at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia.

The 10th Annual Invitation-Only event will feature the best identified 2027-2028 prospects from across the PBR Coverage Area in a five-day event at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA. Participants will be given the unique opportunity of competing against other top-level players while representing their respective state in a high-level atmosphere.

This event will run in conjunction with the PBR Future Games. The Future Games features the top uncommitted players in the Class of 2025 and 2026 from across the Prep Baseball Report’s 40+ state coverage area. It is one of the most highly recruited events of the summer and attracts more than 300 college coaches from across the country each year.

This one-of-a-kind event will include individual workouts and a 4-game guarantee with single elimination bracket play to determine a champion in each age group.

+ C Evan Taylor (Spain Park HS, 2027) returns for another year at the PBR Jr. Future Games after being a member of last year’s Team Alabama 13U squad. Now playing in the 14U age group, the right-handed hitting backstop looks every bit of the part of a future middle-of-the-order hitter, and can defend, as well. Now more physical in this viewing standing 6-foot-0, 175-pounds, Taylor rotates through and stays on the ball throughout the swing and consistently drove balls to the gaps during his round of BP. The rising freshman really incorporates his lower-half well and is connected throughout. Intriguing power already and a chance for much more in the future. Good name to circle in the rising freshman class in AL.

+ SS Baylor Morrison (Etowah HS, 2027) continues to one-up previous performances with a strong look at yesterday’s workout. After earning considerable playing time as an eighth-grader for the Class 4A Champions this past spring, Morrison continued to showcase his impressive skill set in addition to a gamer-type mentality. Listed at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, the rising freshman is a solid athlete and it shows up in multiple ways on the field. The right-hander possesses a short, twitchy stroke with the innate ability to find the sweet spot on the majority of his swings. Posted a strong workout and should continue to impress during gameplay throughout the next few days.

+ C/SS Rocco Maniscalco (Oxford HS, 2027) jumped out at this summer’s Excel Baseball Scout Day and has continued to enjoy a solid summer leading into this event. Standing 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, the switch-hitting backstop has present strength and should continue to add more in the future. From both sides of the plate, the rising freshman has a really simple movement through the zone, but leads a heavy barrel to contact that produces firm contact to all fields. He’s equally as impressive behind the plate with strong throws from the crouch posting sub-2.0 pop times at previous events with accuracy to the second base bag. Another good one to circle moving forward in the rising freshman class in AL.

+ SS Gavin Lang (Collinsville HS, 2027) is another one, like Taylor, who is back for his second-consecutive year representing Team Alabama at the PBR Jr. Future Games and is already looking like one of the top infielders in the rising freshman class in AL. Lang, a strong two-way prospect, is listed at 6-foot-0, 165-pounds and has present strength and athleticism to his overall game. After providing intriguing glimpses of power potential at last summer’s event, the right-hander showcased the strides he’s made in a year while launching balls into the pull-side gap with consistency during his round of BP. Also clocked a 7.07 60 YD and posted a clean round of defense. Another name-to-know in the rising freshman class in AL.

+ C Hudson Smith (James Clemens HS, 2027) is another prospect that is back for this second-consecutive year representing Team Alabama and posted a strong showing during yesterday’s workout. Standing 5-foot-10, 145-pounds, the rising freshman possesses an athletic skill set of tools and impressed at various stations during the workout. Hitting from the right side, Smith generates efficient rhythm throughout his setup and displayed a strong ability to find the barrel throughout his round of BP. Equally adept behind the dish, the rising freshman has sub-2.0 pop times and average arm strength that will only continue to tick up. Intriguing rising freshman to follow in the rising freshman class in AL.

+ SS Cole Austin (Piedmont HS, 2028) was another prospect our staff was eager to see again at yesterday’s workout and he showcased well across multiple stations. Listed at 5-foot-8, 145-pounds, the infielder will obviously continue to get stronger and improve his frame, but he possesses an advanced skill set that was obvious to see. He is a solid athlete for his age clocking a 7.32 60 YD, and showcased a gap-to-gap approach during his round of BP that consistently delivered exit velocities in the mid-80s. He moves well defending at the shortstop position with a solid arm, and is also a quality right-handed pitcher that has been up to 80 mph this summer.
