AL/MS Border Battle: Alabama Quick Hits, Catchers
October 15, 2024
BOONEVILLE, MS - The AL/MS Border Battle was held on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th at Northeast Mississippi CC in Booneville, MS. This event was an invite-only event hosting some talented prospects from the 2025-2028 classes in Alabama. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement while facing live hitters in simulated innings. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.
Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top overall performers from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release quick hits articles, other various event leaderboards, individual scouting reports, and much more on each player present at the event.

Advanced Blast Motion metrics for a 2027 prospect; 23.2 mph avg. hand speed, 73.0 mph avg. bat speed, 27.7 G avg. rotational acceleration. Just missed on a few swings during gameplay, but blasted a triple to RCF in his final at-bat on Sunday. Hit seven HRs this past high school season as a freshman. Offensive ability is leading the way currently, but ability to defend behind the plate isn't too far behind. Recieves well with strong wrists, sticks the pitch at the bottom of the zone well. Corbin Driskell C / Southside, AL / 2025Rankings StateRank: 133 / POS: 16
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 232-pounds. Obvious strength to build and utilizies it well offensively. One of the better uncommitted backstops remaining in the 2025 class in Alabama. Power-hitting right-handed bat with easy gap-to-gap pop. Possesses a short, compact swing and uses quick, strong hands to help drive the baseball to the power alleys. Barrel-filled round of BP and posted a top EV of 96.8 mph with a max estimated distance of 351 ft. Translated it to gameplay, where he accumulated multiple hits including a run-scoring double to the RCF gap on Sunday. Hard-worker behind the plate defensively with 2.02-2.08 pop times and a C velocity of 76 mph. Could move to a corner spot defensively in the future. James Lucas C / 3B / Vestavia Hills, AL / 2025Rankings StateRank: 79 / POS: 7
Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 218-pounds. Thick, durable frame with stronger lower-half. Possesses some of the best power in the 2025 class in Alabama and showed it this past weekend during the workout. An offensive-minded prospect currently with best tool easily being the ability to hit for extra bases and slug. Generates easy pull-side pop with a fairly low-effort swing that produces such higher exits. Left the yard multiple times during his round of BP. Quick, strong hands with bat speed. Posted a top EV of 104.9 mph and an estimated max distance of 386 ft, both of which were event-bests. Not much to show for on the box score during gameplay, but have seen him hit enough in the past. Some ability behind the dish with pop times ranging 2.02-2.13 and a C velocity of 74 mph. Recieves and blocks well. Could also move to a corner spot in the future to get the run-producing bat in a lineup. Another uncommitted backstop in the 2025 class in Alabama who shouldn't be on the board for much longer.
