Huntsville Preseason ID: Quick Hits

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Preseason ID was held on Thursday, January 4th at Clutch Performance in Huntsville, AL. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2024-2029 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 30 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Thursday.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Wednesday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

Southeastern Louisiana recruit. 6-foot-2, 210-pounds. Athletic prospect with proportional strength throughout build. One of the more talented two-way prospects in the junior class in AL and it was evident last night. Looks poised for a breakout spring after standout showings at the numerous events over the summer circuit, including the PBR Future Games. Gap-to-gap hitter who hits from a wide, balanced base. Good top-hand strength allows the ability to turn the barrel with impressive bat speed. Really incorportates the lower-half well and projects to be an extra-base hitter. Produced consistent loud contact throughout his round with Trackman numbers to back it up; top EV at 94.0 and avg. EV at 87.9 mph, both of which were top-3 from the event. Good athleticism and clocked a 3.88 30 YD. Sound mechanics on the mound and worked up to 88.6 mph in a tune-up bullpen in the preseason. Utilizies a four pitch mix; slider (75-76 mph; 2300 rpm), curveball (74-76 mph; 2250 rpm), and changeup (81-82 mph; 12 in. of horizontal movement). Regarded as a top-25 prospect in the 2025 class in AL.

Ty Marsh 3B / James Clemens, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 195-pounds. Present strength throughout frame; potential room to add. Another prospect who performed well on the circuit and capped it off at the PBR Future Games this past summer. Performs in-game and produced hitting in the heart of the order for James Clemens HS last spring as a sophomore. Decent athleticism that translates over from playing quarterback in the fall on the gridiron. Possesses a compact left-handed stroke that more often than not finds firm contact. Swings the barrel with aggressive intent and looks to drive the ball to the gap. Tight, connected turn through contact and solid bat speed yields low-90 EV's. Should continue to hit for more power down the road. One of the top uncommitted hitters still uncommitted in the 2025 class in AL and a name to follow moving into the high school season.

Vincent Howald 3B / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2025Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 220-pounds. Thick, physical build with plenty of strength. Really impressive showing in his first event in nearly two years and showed the strides he's made in that time period. Ranked near the top of most offensive statistical categories and showed he has a chance to make a big impact in his first season at a powerhouse program in northern AL this spring. Athletic and loose with his setup using a slightly-crouched stance. Simple stride allows him to get down on time and sends barrel directly to the point of contact. Utilizies physicality well and hammered the back net throughout his round of BP; top EV at 94.2 mph. second-best from the event. Clocked a 3.98 30 YD, top-5 from the event, and is more athletic than you'd think. Opted not to pitch, but supposedly has good arm strength. Another uncommitted junior in AL to keep close tabs on this spring.

Trip Morgan 1B / James Clemens, AL / 2025Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. Impressive physical strength throughout build. Took arguably the loudest round of BP consistently hammering balls to the pull-side. Possesses a simple setup and a slightly wider base; shortest of strides for trigger and doesn't take much effort to generate high exits. Can really tap into the lower-half throughout his swing and uses his strength to his advantage. Good extension out front and really drives through the baseball with a two-handed finish. Looks to create damage with controlled aggression. Recorded the top EV from the event at 95.6 mph. Power is certainly the carrying tool here and should be another uncommitted right-handed bat in the 2025 class in AL to follow closely this spring.

Landon Scott OF / Huntsville, AL / 2025Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 155-pounds. Lean, athletic build; room to add mass in the future. Took a really quality round of BP during last night's event and looks primed for a solid high school season. Has made noticable changes to his setup since the last viewing and look to be paying off with his best PBR exit velocity at the event. Hands and bat start higher in his stance allowing a quicker, more efficient path to contact. Utilizies a more uphill path through the baseball; does a good job of keeping weight on the back side. Decent athleticism in the outfield and profiles to a corner spot. Two-way prospect that is effective on the mound while changing speeds, but the right-handed bat seems to have the most upside at the current moment.

Jarron Meredith C / West Limestone, AL / 2025Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 180-pounds. Prototypical catcher build; potential room to add weight in the future. Made a really strong impression in his first PBR showcase setting a solid baseline for the future. One of the more polished receivers from the event and stood out while catching bullpens after the workout. Balanced setup and stays that way throughout his swing; keeps weight on the back side. Creates quality extension while driving throughout contact; showcased a good feel for the sweet spot throughout his round of BP. Gap-to-gap type hitter with potential for higher exits to come in the future. Sticks pitches behind the plate and works to steal strikes. A relative unknown coming into this event, but walked away impressed with his ability to hit and defend. Good uncommitted backstop in the 2025 class in AL to keep close tabs on.
