Montgomery Summer ID: Quick Hits
July 18, 2024
PRATTVILLE, AL - The Montgomery Summer ID was held on Tuesday, July 16th at Prattville Christian Academy in Prattville, AL. This event was an open event hosting some talented prospects from the 2025-2029 classes in Alabama. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during a simulated bullpen and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.
Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top overall performers from the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release quick hits articles, other various event leaderboards, individual scouting reports, and much more on each player present at the event.

Edmund Cody RHP / Dothan, AL / 2026Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 171-pounds. Lean, high-waisted frame with sizable overall projection. An under-the-radar right-handed pitcher who was sidelined during the spring due to an injury, but has since come back and performed well on the circuit. Clean operation on the mound with some athleticism in a fluid, up-tempo delivery that works aggressove down the mound. Sitting 87-89 mph and up to 89.2 mph during his extended bullpen while showcasing tons of life and carry, especially at the top of the zone. Can really back-spin the fastball with spin rates near 2500 RPM. Features two distinct breaking balls; slider ranges 79-81 mph with shorter, horizontal bite while spinning 2660 RPM and a more over-the-top curveball with 11-5 shape spinning an absurd 2926 RPM. Also pronates a diving changeup at 82-83 mph. One of the better bullpens our staff has seen from a 2026 pitcher this spring, and will be representing Alabama at the Prep Baseball Future Games next week.

John Justus OF / LHP / Coosa Christian, AL / 2025Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 159-pounds. Strong build. Intriguing two-way prospect who arguably took one of the best rounds of BP from the event. Listed a primary LHP, but hard to ignore the physical left-handed bat. Lived on the barrel throughout his round showing a gap-to-gap approach and consistent line drives into the pull-side gap. Toe-tap trigger with good balance and controlled aggression throughout the left-handed swing. Has some bat and hand speed. Registered a top EV of 95.1 mph and an average EV of 90.4 mph, which should speak to the consistency of his round. Also worked up to 80 mph on the mound with some feel for spin on a downer breaking ball with bite. Intriguing left-handed bat who looks to hit in the middle of the order and be a primary run-producer down the road potentially at the next level. Hit .479 with 12 doubles this past spring.

Xavier Boswell OF / Trinity Presbyterian, AL / 2025Lean 6-foot-1, 154-pounds. Elite athleticism and impressive twitch. Star multi-sport prospect who was named 1st Team All-State in football last season as a WR/S. Also had a strong spring on the diamond hitting in the middle of the order for Trinity Presbyterian, a baseball powerhouse in Class 4A. Posted one of the louder rounds of BP from the event with consistent drives deep to the pull-side and multiple leaving the yard. Ball jumps off the barrel with impact skills when squared up. Has above-average bat and hand speed. Simple right-handed operation with length to swing and extension through contact. Recorded a 6.79 60-yard dash and a top EV of 97.3 mph, both of which were bests from the event. Rangy in the OF where the athleticism translates over. Tracks well and charges aggressively with accurates throws to the plate and a top OF velo of 84 mph.

Colin Murphy RHP / Spanish Fort, AL / 2025Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 154-pounds. Athletic, high-waisted build. Another two-way prospect who enjoyed a solid workout early in the showcase, but really separated himself as a quality uncommitted right-handed pitcher during his bullpen. Smooth operation with athletic movement patterns down the mound. Showcases a quick arm that produced a fastball ranging 84-85 mph and touched 85.6 mph with sizable arm-side run from a mostly 3/4 arm slot. Features a curveball at 69-70 mph with more 11-5 shape and spin rates near 2500 RPM, while also spinning a 70-71 mph slider with more horizontal break and spinning 2350 RPM. Rounds out the arsenal with a serviceable changeup at 75-76 mph that showcased that same type of action as the fastball. Quality two-way prospect who may have more upside on the mound.

Riley Wilemon RHP / OF / Faith Academy , AL / 2026Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 179-pounds. Athletic build with present proportional strength. Live right-handed arm with above-average metrics on his primary pitches. Control over the command currently. Up-tempo, agressive worker down the mound and gets sizable extension. Long, over-the-top arm alot who can really back-spin the fastball with carry and life through the zone sitting 84-86 mph and touching 86.8 mph during his bullpen. Plays up when located at the top of the zone and can pair it with hard curveball at 74-75 mph with late bite and 11-5 depth to it while spinning 2700 RPM. Also flashed a single changeup with arm-side run sitting 77-80 mph to round out the arsenal. Can also swing it a bit from the right side showing higher exits at previous events, but plenty of traits to like on the mound.

Carter Gilley SS / Central-Phenix City, AL / 2028Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 153-pounds. Athletic frame that will continue to develop down the road and already showing the skills to pair with. A switch-hitter and former Junior Future Gamer who performed well from both sides of the plate, the rising freshman showed a knack for finding the barrel throughout his round of BP. All-fields hitter who stays connected and extends the barrel through the zone nicely. Possesses an accurate barrel with a high-contact rate. Strong top hand turns the barrel with some intent and bat speed. Smooth actions on the dirt, where he showed solid lateral range to pair with a reliable glove. Above-average arm strength for age that worked up to 80 mph with accuracy on throws across the INF. A good name to circle and follow over the course of the next few years.

Ryan Roland C / OF / Headland, AL / 2026Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 154-pounds. Athletic backstop who showcased well in multiple parts of the workout. Hits from a slightly-open stance and gets back square using a bigger toe-tap trigger for timing. Separates well and keeps the barrel through the zone on contact. Mostly pull-side approach in this look with consistent line drives to LF. Appears to be a line drive type hitter and posted a top EV of 90.2 mph during his round of BP. Equally as talented behind the plate, showing quality skills from the crouch, including 2.01-2.11 pop times and a C velocity of 71 mph with accuracy. Recieves well and with the ability to stick pitches on the corners and athletic enough to block. Quality prospect in the rising junior class in the Wiregrass area to follow over the next two years.
