As the calendar turns to December, I want to review the top prospects from the 2017. These players have separated themselves as top prospect, with the potential at some point in their career to become professional prospects, if they are not already.

Scouting Report

Gray is 5-foot-10 150-pound outfielder with an athletic frame and build. His elite speed make him a top prospect in the 2020 class as he runs a 6.43 in the 60. Defensively he shows sound instincts on balls in the air, he plays through the baseball with sound footwork and a short arm action from  a high 3/4 slot. He throws the baseball 78 mph accurately from the outfield.  Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a simple load stride combination. He attacks the baseball with an uphill bat path and produces exit velocities up to 87 mph. Overall Gray is an advanced athlete with well round skills in all facets of his game.

Top Prospects 2017 Hitting

Gray is an advanced athlete that runs a sub 6.6 in the 60. His athleticism allowed him to break into the starting lineup for Cabot HS. He was a catalyst offensively at the top of the lineup. Helping an offensive unit that produced a 7A State Championship. Recruiting started for Gray in the spring as he committed to Arkansas at the end of the high school season.

He played for the Arkansas Prospects in the summer, and continued to show a well-rounded athlete with advanced skills. He impressed me at the top prospects games leading an event with 44 players that ran sub 7.0 in the 60 with a 6.43. He handled himself well offensively against the top pitchers in the state and showed solid instincts in the outfield.

Overall Gray is an advanced athlete, he will be intriguing to watch how much arm strength develops and how advanced offensively he becomes over the next three season. If both of those continue to improve he has an opportunity to become a professional prospect out of high school.
