Arkansas State Receives Commitment from Conway LHP

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

2018 LHP Jordan Wicks committed to Arkansas State University Wednesday afternoon. Wicks is the No.10 ranked player in the 2018 class and the No. 4 Left-hander in a very deep class.

Wicks has had a great high school career, during his first two years. As a freshman he was key piece of the pitching staff, producing consistently and earning a start in the 7A State Championship game. As a sophomore he had another productive year on the mound and became a big piece of the offense for the Wampus Cats as they made a return trip to the 7A State Finals.

Wicks is expected to compete as both a pitcher and a first baseman for Arkansas State. Below is my scouting report of Wicks from the PBR Arkansas Tournament, this summer hosted at Arvest Ballpark.

Jordan Wicks, LHP, Conway HS
Wicks is 6-foot-1 180 pound left-hander with a large frame and an athletic build.  He works from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick clean arm. He has smooth rhythm and good extension. His fastball is thrown 83-85 mph with arm-side run. He commands a curveball with 1/7 action thrown at 72-74 mph. His changeup was thrown 70-72 mph with arm-side run. Wicks is a polished pitcher, that competes at a high level.
