The dust from the 2018 MLB Draft has hardly settled, but the page has been turned to 2019. Summer events are kicking off, and area scouts are starting to build their follow lists and create a plan of attack to see draft hopefuls for the next 12 months. The Elite
Bobby Witt Jr., SS, Colleyville Heritage HS, TX
The elite position players in 2019 each come with plenty of accolades and proven records of performing at the highest level. Witt Jr., an Oklahoma recruit, is nearly a household-name already. The son of former big leaguer and first-round pick, Bobby Witt, “Junior” is a five-tool prospect who exceeds expectations every time he steps on the field. Just when scouts think there is nothing more that he can prove, Witt finds a way to do it. He is must-watch whether in the field, at the plate, or on the bases, and he plays the game like he has something to prove. He possesses the quick hands and strong wrists at the plate that allow him to impact baseballs with startling exit velocities, the quickness to swipe bases and range at shortstop, and the arm strength to close out games on the mound with a mid-90s fastball.
