Q and A with Arkansas commit Jake Reindl

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

We recently had the opportunity to catch up  with Jake Reindl and discuss his commitment to Arkansas. Jake is a RHP, 6-1, 175 pound RHP from Shilioh Christian HS, in Springdale. He had a great junior season posting an ERA under 1.00 and winning 8 games.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the University of Arkansas?

Reindl:I have always wanted to be a Razorback. There is a sense of pride that comes along with playing for the team you’ve cheered on and always wanted to be a part of. I really hit it off with the coaching staff, and I liked the plan they had for me as a player. That plus the combination of academics, proximity, and facilities made Arkansas the perfect fit for me.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Reindl:The first time Arkansas came to watch me play was the spring of my junior year. I was pitching against Greenbrier at Tyson Park in Springdale.

PBR: When did you take your first official visit to the U of A?

Reindl: My first on-campus visit with the coaches and tour of the facilities was at the end of August.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Reindl:They told me that how much I pitch and in what positions I pitch is up to me. If I make strides on the mound, I have the opportunity to pitch a lot freshman year.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Reindl: I had offers from Wichita State, Baylor, and Oral Roberts. I also had a lot of contact with Oklahoma State and a few other schools in the region.

PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them.

Reindl: I played for the Midwest Nationals under Coach Dave Bingham. It was not an easy summer by any stretch of the imagination, but it was the most fun I’ve had in my life. Pitchers did strength and conditioning work daily. There were a lot of sprints, core work, and explosive training exercises, and we would pitch a game that same day. Coach Bingham is an “old school” coach, which I loved. If I had a bad day on the mound, he let me know about it. If I had a good day on the mound, he made sure I kept working and didn’t become complacent. We developed a great relationship over the summer. Playing for him made me a better pitcher and a better person.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Reindl: As far as coaches go, Dave Bingham has had the biggest impact on me. It was my dad, however, that made sure that I had every chance to succeed. He drove me to tournaments, got me lessons, and even built a covered cage in our backyard. He got me on the right teams with the right coaches and always made sure I took advantage of every opportunity. To this day, he has not turned down an opportunity to talk baseball.

PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?

Reindl: I was 8-2 with a 0.75 ERA. I struck out 67 and allowed 34 hits and 14 walks in 65.2 innings of work.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you've faced in Arkansas?

Reindl:I didn’t play summer ball in Arkansas, but the best hitter I faced in the high school season was a lefty from Harrison named Hunter Humphrey. Outside of Arkansas, the toughest team I’ve thrown against was the EvoShield Canes, the #1 ranked team in the country.
