The Arkansas Oklahoma Challenge is a 14 team tournament with teams from Arkansas and Oklahoma. I will be scouting games at Greenwood High School on Thursday and Friday, and will then move to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith for Saturday’s games. Below you will find notes on some of the players who stood out at various games throughout the weekend.

2018 SS/2B Colton Bertus -Deer Creek- (Sandlot Hinckley)
A 5-foot-9, 165-pound lean, athletic build. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, line drive approach. Hits from an open, front leg heavy set-up. Uses a smooth load, hanging leg kick for timing, hands start high, short to contact with a downward angle of attack, high finish.Defensively, shows advanced hands, and clean footwork. Throws from a high 3/4 slot, some accuracy.

2018 RHP Karsten Boudreau -Union- (Sandlot Kelley)
A 6-foot, 175-pound frame with some strength in the lower half. Boudreau works from an average tempo delivery with a clean arm action coming through an over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane, sitting 77-80 mph. Curveball shows 12/6 shape with depth and gradual break, 65-70 mph. Changeup is thrown with full arm speed and has some deception, 70-72 mph. Tossed a complete game, striking out six in five innings.

2019 OF Alex Cauley -North Little Rock- (Stick Baseball Academy)
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound lean frame with athleticism. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open stance with bend in the knees and waist and rhythm. Takes a soft, short stride, short to the ball, excellent extension. A middle to pull approach with lift. On day two, hit a home run to left and a two RBI single.

2019 C Keaton Cloyd -Bentonville- (Perfect Timing Blue)
A 5-foot-7, 155-pound developing frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a balanced, even, and quiet set-up. Uses a slight leg lift, short to the ball, flat path with a middle of the field approach and an abbreviated finish. Defensively, behind the plate, catches from a narrow set-up, shows clean exchanges and accurate throws. On day two, Cloyd deliver the game winning RBI triple to the left-centerfield wall. On day one, back picked a runner at second after a walk, caught a runner stealing second, and caught a runner stealing third.

2020 1B Dalton Cook -  - (Perfect Timing Gray)
Cook is a physically advanced thick frame with with strength. The right-handed hitter bats from an even stance with some bend at the waist and rhythm in his hands. Uses a rocking load and slight leg lift before launching his hands with some bat speed and a slight up hill path. Shows a gap-to-gap approach with some lift. Barreled three balls on the day a three RBI double and a RBI double to dead center field.

2019 RHP Zane Cox -Dierks- (Sticks Baseball Academy)
A 5-foot-10, 160 pound lean frame. Offensively, bats from a balanced stance with bend in his knees and hips, rhythm in his hands. Uses a moderate leg lift for timing, flat path through contact and a gap to gap approach. On the mound, uses an up-tempo delivery that he repeats well, moderate arm circle, high-3/4 arm slot. Fastball keeps its plane, 80-82 throughout the game, controlled in the zone.  Curveball shows 11/5 shape with some late depth, 66-68 mph. In the game, only allowed one hit and got consistent swings and misses on the curveball.

2020 RHP Luke Davenport -Fayetteville HS-(Perfect Timing Blue)
A 5-foot-9, 180-pound durable frame with strength. The right-hander works from a slightly up-tempo delivery that he repeats well. The arm circle is fluid, coming through an over the top slot with arm speed. Fastball sat 81-83 mph and touched 84 twice with occasional downhill tilt. Curveball ranged 67-72 mph with mostly 11/5 shape and some depth. Flashed a changeup as well 72-73 mph. Pitched mainly off his fastball and showed good command early.

2020 C Max Doshier -Springdale HS- (Perfect Timing Gray)
A lean and athletic frame with some strength. The right-handed hitter bats from a balanced and athletic stance with a middle to opposite field approach with enough strength to drive the ball to the opposite field. Doshier found barrel all day, recording three hits, including an RBI single and and three RBI double to right that broke the game open and lead to a win.

2019 SS/RHP James Dunlap -Bishop Kelley- (Sandlot Wrona)
A 6-foot-1, 163-pound proportional frame. Dunlap is currently a skilled two-way player that may have a slightly higher ceiling on the mound. The right-hander pitches with a simple, average tempo, repeatable delivery. Arm action is clean and consistent from an over the top slot with some looseness. Fastball keeps its plane at 81-83 mph, controlled in the zone. Curveball shows 12/6 shape with gradual break, 61-62 mph. Changeup sits 71-72 with slight fade.

2019 C/1B Manny Duran -Broken Arrow- (Sandlot Wrona)
A 6-foot-1, 240-pound build. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a front foot heavy, slightly wide set-up with loose high-set hands. Uses a rocking load, is short to the ball with a slightly uphill path. Behind the plate, a slightly above average receiver, deliberate actions, 2.09-2.13 in between inning pop times. In game three, posted two doubles and a single with 3 RBI’s.

2019 RHP Brendon Eropkin -Shawnee- (Sandlot Kelley)
A proportionate build with strength in the lower half. Works from an average tempo delivery with rhythm. Uses a high leg kick and drives down the mound will. Arm circle is moderate and clean, coming through a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sat 83-85 mph. Close out the last inning without allowing a runner and stuck out the last batter.

2020 LHP/OF Nick Griffin -Monticello HS (SBA 2020)
A lean 6-foot-1, 155-pound projectable frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats form a narrow, upright stance, with rhythm throughout. Uses a moderate leg kick for timing, flat path to contact with a high finish, showing some bat speed. Defensively, tracks balls well with elite speed for his age and shows an advanced arm with carry. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a short arm stroke in the back, coming through a high-3/4 slot with looseness and arm speed. Fastball sits 80-82 mph with slight arm side run.

2019 RHP Jack Hackney-Dewitt- (Maximum Impact)
An average build with a lean frame. On the mound, works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick. Arm circle is small with some quickness, coming through at a 3/4 slot. Fastball flashed some arm-side run, 75-77 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with rolling action. Didn’t have great success against a talented offence, but projects to be a solid arm down the road.

2019 RHP Devin Hearn -Bentonville- (Perfect Timing Blue)
A projectable frame with long legs. Works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick and a slight coil load at the top and gets down the mound well. Uses a moderate arm circle coming through a 3/4 slot, loose and quick. Fastball sat 78-80 mph with arm-side run and some sink. Slide has 10/4 shape,  developing tight spin, 69-71 mph. Closed out the win for PT Blue on day two.

2019 RHP Eric HIll -Farmington- (Perfect Timing Red)
A 5-foot-10, 160-pound proportional frame. Works from average tempo delivery with smooth rhythm, gets down the mound well. Arm circle is full and clean, comes through a high-3/4 slot with some looseness. Fastball sits 77-80 mph, flashes arm side run. Breaking ball shows slurve action 67-68 mph.

2019 C John Hoskyn -Stuttgart- (Stick Baseball Academy)
A thick and durable 6-foot, 199-pound frame with strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open, balanced set-up with a slight squat and rhythm. Uses a toe-tap stride with a big hand load. Short to the ball, slightly uphill path, middle to pull approach. Defensively, shows above average receiving and blocking, strong arm with carry and some accuracy. On day two, had an RBI double and RBI single along with doing his job twice earning two more RBI’s.

2019 1B/LHP Max Huffling -Deer Creek- (Sandlot Hinckley)
Physically advanced, Huffling towers at 6-foot-8, 215-pounds. Offensively, starts from a front foot heavy, wide set-up from the right-side. Uses a high knee-knock leg kick for timing and arm-bar load. Swing path is flat with some bat speed. Had a big RBI double to the centerfield wall in bracket play.

2018 SS Trevon Jelinek -Bishop McGuinness- (Sandlot Kelley)
A 6-foot-2, 160-pound lean frame with plenty of room to grow. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a crouched, open stance with rhythm in his hands. Shows loose hands with a flat path and an all fields approach. Defensively, shows average hands and feet with slightly above average arm strength.  On day two Jelinek, posted three hard hit singles with three RBI's and a walk.  In the championship game, hammer a two RBI triple and an RBI double.  

2019 SS Creed Killgore -Shawnee- (Sandlot Kelley)
A 6-foot, 145-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter uses a balanced, wide, athletic set-up with quiet hands, resting the bat on his shoulder. Uses a rocking load with a moderate leg kick, is short to the ball with a flat path and excellent extension. Showed a middle of the field line drive approach. Had a leadoff double and an RBI double-to-back to back at bats in the semi final game.  In the infield, shows consistent clean actions, throws from multiple arm angles, above average arm with accuracy.

2019 LHP/1B Riley Lowry -Mount St. Mary- (Sandlot Kelley)
A well-built 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with long legs. On the mound, the left-hander uses a very deliberate, below average effort delivery, reaches back toward third base before coming through a 3/4 slot. Fastball shows some downhill action with slight run and sink, 76-79 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape with depth and gradual break. Changeup keeps its plane, 60-64 mph. In the game, Lowry didn’t get his best results of the summer, but competed, keeping his team within reach throughout. Offensively, the left-handed hitter uses an upright, back leg heavy set-up, uses a reverse toe-tap and long stride for timing. Blistered a double to center in day two play.

2020 OF Trey McKim -Glen Rose- (Maximum Impact)
An above average build. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a balanced set-up and uses a short compact swing with a flat path and a middle to opposite field approach. On day two, broke up a no hitter with two outs in the last inning with  a line drive single right, and tacked on another hit in the following game as well.

2020 RHP John Michael Toney - - (Perfect Timing Red)
A long frame with some strength. The right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick, full arm circle coming through a  3/4 slot. Early on, the fastball sat 76-78 mph, trail of a bit as the pitch number rose. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with some depth. Held the PT Gray offensive at bay for four strong innings.

2019 RHP Hayden Minton -Collinsville- (Sandlot Wrona)
A 6-foot-3, 170-pound lean frame with long limbs and lots of room to add size and strength. Works from an athletic, average tempo delivery with a high leg kick, gets over his front side well. Arm circle is full and clean, comes through a low-3/4 slot, quick, loose, and whippy. Fastball sat 83-86 early on, flashing arm-side run. Slider shows late 10/4 depth, 72-75 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with depth, 68-71 mph. Went four strong innings in the game, slider was a consistent swing and miss pitch.

2019 OF/RHP Tyler O’Dell -Pea Ridge- (Perfect Timing Blue)
A physical 6-foot-3 170-pound long frame. Offensively bats from a wide, balanced and athletic set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a small, simple and quiet stride with a slight hand pump load. Is short to the ball despite his long arms with good extension through contact. Shows a gap to gap approach with some pop. Had multiple extra base hits on the weekend including an RBI triple on day two.

2020 RHP Garrett Prowell -Rogers HS- (Perfect Timing Gray)
A 5-foot-11, 120-pound slender frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. Works from a slower than average tempo, big arm circle, and over the top slot. Early on, the fastball sat 71-74 mph with impressive cut. Curveball has 11/5 rolling shape with gradual break at 60-61 mph. The changeup shows some fade, 65-66 mph. Left the game after 5.2 hitless innings, but showed some command issues late, giving up 3 runs.

2019 SS Jansen Reeder -Edmond North- (Sandlot Wrona)
A 6-foot, 180-pound frame with strength throughout. Offensively, bats from a back leg heavy set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a leg lift and moderate stride for timing, short to the ball, flat path through contact. In the game, hammer an RBI double to center field.

2018 RHP/3B Jacob Savage -Latta- (Sandlot Hinckley)
A 6-foot-1, 195-pound thick, durable build. Simple delivery with good rhythm. Clean loose arm action, high-3/4 slot, slight recoil. Fastball sat 84-86 mph flashing heavy run and sink.  Slider shows late depth with 10/4 shape and tight spin, thrown with full arm speed. Closed out the win on day two efficiently. Pitched to mostly weak contact in his start in bracket play.

2019 1B Logan Sharp -Beebe- (Maximum Impact)
An advanced physical frame. Offensively, the right handed hitter bats from an open and wide set-up with bend in his knees and rhythm in his hands. Uses a high leg kick and hand pump load, slightly uphill bat path with length and bat speed. At first base, shows some athletic action. In the game, hit two balls hard including an double to the left-center field gap, and a line drive to short on a breaking ball.

2020 SS Brayden Sites -Sheridan HS (SBA 2020)
A proportional 5-10, 165-pound athletic frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a front foot heavy set-up with bend in this waist and rhythm in his low set hands. Uses a moderate leg kick with a rocking load, short to the ball with a high finish. On base all four times with an HBP, single, three RBI triple, and RBI single, barreling every ball.  Defensively, shows developing actions with athleticism and above average arm strength.

2019 RHP Brooks Smith -Norman North- (Sandlot Hinckley)
A 6-foot-1, 260-pound frame. Works from an average tempo delivery with a controlled leg kick, out and around with the front side, delivery is consistently repeated. Short arm action coming through a high-3/4 slot. Fastball keeps its plane 79-81 mph. Curveball shows depth with 11/5 shape 68-71mph.

2018 LHP/1B Josh Soliz -Edmond North- (Sandlot Kelley)
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame with long legs and broad shoulders. Works from an abbreviated windup, good rhythm and tempo, loose arm action, low-3/4 slot. Fastball showed some arm-side run, 73-76 mph. Changeup sat 67-69 mph, good feel. Curveball spins out at 60-64 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, middle to pull approach with pop.  Narrow, balanced stance, smooth knee-knock load, good hands, some bat speed. Blasted a two run home run to left on day two and posted a two RBI double in bracket play.

2019 SS Evan Stewart -Catholic HS- (SBA Brownmiller)
A developing 5-foot-7, 135-pound frame. Stewart jumped of the page defensively, making well over 10 plays, including a few web gems, all cleanly. Advanced hands and an accurate arm with a quick release will play at an even higher level as he adds range and arm strength with size. Offensively, Stewart had a couple hits, including an RBI double.

2020 SS Beau Stucky -Fayetteville HS- (Perfect Timing Blue)
A 5-foot-8, 150-pound lean and athletic frame. The right-handed hitter uses a balanced and athletic set-up with a simple flat swing and all fields approach with some bat speed. In the game, smashed a two RBI triple and hit another ball hard to left out of the leadoff spot. Defensively, shows clean and confident actions and slightly above average arm speed. A well above average runner as well.

2019 RHP Matthew Waymon -Pocahontas HS- (SBA Brownmiller)
A proportional 6-foot, 170-pound frame with some strength. The right-hander works from a slightly faster than average tempo with a high leg kick. Uses a full arm circle and an over the top slot with some arm speed. Has some trouble repeating his delivery. Fastball ranged 78-83 and touched 85 mph. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with some late depth. Overall, a developing arm with projectability.

2019 RHP Nick West -Bentonville West- (Perfect TIming Red)
A physical, broad shouldered and durable build. Works from an average tempo delivery with a very high leg kick. Out of the stretch, mixes the high leg kick along with a slide step. Throws with a long arm action coming through a over the top slot. Fastball maintained velocity from pitch one to pitch 110, 77-78 mph, with some downhill actions. Curveball showed rolling action with 12/6 shape, 65 mph. Earned the win in a complete game effort.

2018 RHP/OF Chase Wetwiska -Bethany- (Sandlot Kelley)
A muscular 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame with strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter uses a wide stance, small stride, and smooth load as he shows a middle to pull approach with occasional lift. Hit a hard line drive to center on day two and got a big RBI double in bracket play. On the mound, works from an up-tempo delivery with a high leg kick and quick arm coming through a 3/4 slot. Fastball is commanded in the bottom of the zone and sits 83-85 mph touching 86, with excelent sink. Slider has tight spin with 10/4 shape and late depth, 75-76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with tight spin, 73-74. All three pitches for strikes, occaional big misses.

2020 C Kaden Wilhoit- Bentonville HS- (Perfect TIming Red)
A stocky, durable build with some strength throughout. The right-handed hitter bats from a slightly open relaxed set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a short stride and smooth hand load, slightly uphill path with a high finish. Barreled up three balls on the day including two RBI double.
