Five Uncommitted 2019 Catchers

Jordon Banfield
Arizona Scouting Director

As our fall

events in Arizona are fast approaching, we will spend lots of time in September highlighting some of the best available 2019 prospects in the state. Without any D2 or D3 programs in the state, tons of very solid players remain uncommitted and most will be at the Unsigned Senior Showcase on 10/10 at Sunnyslope HS. Limited space for the event remains and you can REGISTER HERE.

Today we look at five catcher capable of being solid contributors at the next level; possible D1 types and definite high-level Juco/D2 players. All of these prospects have consistently performed at a high level in live game action as well as at previous PBR events. Full report are included with full video available in individual profiles for PBR PLUS subscribers. This is by far the strongest position in the state as far as uncommitted players with every guy on this list a certain college player and proven performer with tools.

Scouting Report

6/27/18 - 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Hasler shows about as much arm strength as you'll see, posting an impressive 83 mph velocity from the crouch and a best pop time of 1.87. Hasler also has a strong swing (93 mph exit velocity) and performed well in the middle of Hamilton's lineup this spring. The swing is a bit mechanical with a very early deep hand load and when cleaned up could elevate his prospect status even further. Also posted a 7.43 60-yard dash. Hasler also got up on the bump and sat 84-85 mph with his fastball. Controlled tempo on leg lift, very long stride, chest is almost touching front knee at release. Flashed an overhand curveball at 71 mph with downer movement. Next-level prospect behind the plate.

Scouting Report

6/27/18 - 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. Strong, compact build. Offensively hit from an athletic, open stance. Swing can get a bit disconnected at times but Skov always shows the ability to barrel in game action; 77 mph exit velocity. Skov always impresses behind the plate and this day was no different posting pop times ranging from 2.00 - 2.11 seconds with a 77 mph catcher velocity. Did not cheat out of the crouch at all on his throws, clean transfer, solid footwork, impressive arm speed. Also ran an above average 60-yard dash for his position at 7.14 seconds. Will help someone at the next level.

11/12/17 - Solid all-around prospect. Very similar testing data to the Fall Prospect Showcase. Can help college program behind the plate and on offense. Plays with elite energy.

10/29/17 – 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with some strength in upper body and athletic lower half; 7.20 60-yard dash. Hits from wide, balanced setup and shows solid bat speed and a path that keeps the barrel in the zone. Front side tends to get soft at times. Made solid contact in BP and will be able to drive the ball more consistently as he learns to firm up his front side through his swing. Athletic receives and blocker showed solid carry on throws turning in a best pop of 1.99 with 78 mph velocity from the crouch.

10/21/17 - 5-foot-11 160-pounds. Looks bigger and stronger than his listed weight. Made consistent hard contact on the weekend. Hits with high back elbow and leg lift trigger, generating good hip rotation and some bat speed. Received well and excelled blocking balls in the dirt. Throws to second carried well and were generally accurate, posting a 2.04 pop. Plays very hard.

6/27/18 - 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. Strong, durable build. Hit from a balanced, open setup offensively. Starts with back leg internally rotated slightly before coiling hips during load. Simple, effortless swing. Gets on plane early. Apparent strength in swing; 85 mph exit velocity. Consistently shows the ability to find the barrel against live pitching. Very quick transfer, strides out far to gain ground towards bag, whippy arm action; 73 mph catcher velocity. Snodgrass has performed at a very high level in high school and will help someone at the next level.

2/28/18 - Has transformed his body, looking leaner and stronger which has made him a more intriguing prospect. Commands the field on defense and shows elite makeup. Consistent 2.0 pops between innings. Doesn't possess elite tools, but is a baseball player. Smoked a line drive with 95 mph exit veto in his last at-bat. Shows ability to be on time against high-end arms. Very little swing and miss in his game.Has made himself into a ossible D1 prospect.

11/12/17 - Turned in a much better performance than only a couple weeks prior at the Fall Prospect Showcase. His 88 mph exit velocity, 7.44 60-yard dash, and 1.96 best pop time were all significant improvements as his body continues to get leaner and more athletic. Snodgrass' hitting ability was never in doubt.

10/29/17 – 6-foot, 190-pound frame with long torso and thick lower half. Relaxed setup with advanced easy rhythm in box. Keeps barrel in zone a long time, making lots of hard contact in his round; 87 mph exit velo. Defensively, shows a quick transfer behind the plate, turning in a best pop time of 2.02 with 75 mph velocity.

Offensively Cotto hit from a balanced set up from the right side. Short stride, gets center of mass moving forward before firing the hips. Back foot tends to come off the ground prior to contact with some scissoring action. Swung with intent; 87 mph exit velocity. Also posted a 7.29 60-yard dash. Very interested to see more from him.
