Five Uncommitted 2019 Right-Handed Pitchers

Jordon Banfield
Arizona Scouting Director

As our fall events in Arizona are fast approaching, we will spend lots of time in September highlighting some of the best available 2019 prospects in the state. Without any D2 or D3 programs in the state, tons of very solid players remain uncommitted and most will be at the Unsigned Senior Showcase on 10/10 at Sunnyslope HS. Limited space for the event remains and you can REGISTER HERE.

Today we look at five right-handed pitchers capable of being solid contributors at the next level; possible D1 types and definite high-level Juco/D2 players. All of these prospects have consistently performed at a high level in live game action as well as at previous PBR events. Full report are included with full video available in individual profiles for PBR PLUS subscribers. Moltz makes the list after showing some feel and projection at our winter event and has been reported touching the upper-80's recently which we're excited to see this fall.

Scouting Report

6/27/18 - 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame. Kokodynski brings a legitimate physical presence and drove the ball with authority to all fields during his round of BP, also posted a 93 mph exit velo. Currently spends most of his time in the outfield, but his 7.58 60-yard dash profiles best to 1st base at the next level. Recorded an 81 mph infield velocity and an 85 mph outfield velocity. Kokodynski also hopped up on the bump sitting 81-83 mph with his fastball. Simple, repeatable delivery. Whippy arm action, brings ball very close to his head before going into a substantial amount of forearm layback. Curveball was thrown with fastball arm speed and varying shape but mostly 11/5. Change up showed considerable arm side life at 76-77 mph. Intriguing two-way prospect.

Scouting Report

4/2/18 - The junior righty has some funk in his delivery, mostly due to stiffness in his hips, but the balls really jumps out of his hand. On this day he showed more control than command, not issuing a walk while working 85-86, T88 mph with his fastball. Based on prior reports Kendall has made a significant veto jump this spring and their could be even more on the way with increased flexibility and a more balanced lower half. Also showed a 71-73 mph breaking ball with significant lateral break that he used to keep hitters off balance and work back to the fastball. Definite high-level follow and a player worthy of entering the updated rankings after the high school season.

Scouting Report

6/27/18 - 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame. On this day Garcia Jr. worked 81-83 topping at 84 mph. Controlled tempo, low effort, clean arm action. Very linear to the plate. Trunk aggressively extends out over lead leg after release. Lead leg could block forward momentum better at times. Good body control. Curveball was thrown with fastball arm speed featuring tight rotation and 11/5 shape. Change up featured some life to arm side at 73-76 mph.

3/16/18 - The junior righty threw the ball well at our Preseason Trials event over the winter, touching the low 80's with a tight 11-5 curveball. We saw all the same traits on this day, but an improved fastball to go along with it. Garcia sat 82-84, touching 85 with an aggressive delivery. If there's another tick of velocity on the way we could be looking at a DI or certainly good Juco level prospect.

12/27/17 - 6-foot-1, 196-poud frame with very broad shoulders. Strong pitcher’s body. Compact delivery with high leg lift; shows some stiffness in hips. Worked 78-81, touching 82 with his fastball that flashed sinking action when down in the zone. 68-71 mph curveball with consistent tight rotation, good depth and 11/5 shape was best pitch on this day as he showed the ability to throw it for a strike as well as below the zone. Also threw developing 73-75 mph changeup that he holds very deep in his hand.

Scouting Report

6/27/18 - 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. Weiss showed he can pitch at the next level, sitting 84-86 with his fastball and mixing in a short 67-68 mph 12-6 curveball with tight rotation that he was able to locate both in and below the zone. Also showed a change up at 74 mph that flashed sinking action. Weiss has a unorthodox delivery. He takes the ball out of his glove and quickly elevates his hand above his head with the ball pointing towards second. He also takes one of the longer strides you will find, but he seems to make it work for him.

Scouting Report

1/28/18 - 6-foot-3, 183-pound frame. Looks bigger and more physical than listed weight. Worked exclusively from the stretch and showed the ability to fill up the zone. Significant effort in delivery with some head violence through release. ¾ arm slot and open-toe landing position. Filled up the bottom of the zone with 80-81 mph 2 and 4-seam fastballs that showed similar action with some heaviness and downhill plane. Showed advanced feel and confidence in both secondary offerings. Sinking 71-74 mph changeup is thrown with fastball arm speed and intent. Also showed a quality breaking ball at 70-71 that he calls a slider but has curveball shape and depth with 11/5 shape.
