Mountain Ridge (AZ) Adds High-End Arm

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Mountain Ridge HS, AZ, has the top 2018 prospect in the country in LHP Matthew Liberatore. Depending on a ruling from the state association, the Mountain Lions may have another high-level Arizona recruit to send to the mound. 2019 RHP Zach Martinez recently transferred to Mountain Ridge, but is waiting a decision on his eligibility. If he is cleared, it will give Mountain Ridge a formidable one-two punch. Martinez won a bronze medal with Team USA’s 15U National Team at the 2016 WBSC World Cup. He logged nine innings across three appearances there with one run allowed on nine hits and two walks while striking out five. He stands at 5-foot-8, 165 pounds and can run his fastball into the low 90s. He is ranked No. 9 in Arizona.
